MapleRead just happened to make all "non-safe-area" black, which made some people think that the app was not properly designed. What an irony! Anyway, the MapleRead developer seems to recognize this misunderstanding, and remedy it in its latest release version 3.3. ![]() |

PDF double page view
MapleRead SE 3.3 has some new features for PDF:
- Added two options Pair First Page and Zero Out Page Gap for PDF Double Page Landscape I like the flexibility they offer. The option "Pair First Page" is especially useful for reading some of my "non-standard" PDF files, which may have missing blank even/odd pages (vs. their paper versions). With that option, I can adjust the page pairing as needed, even for the same PDF book. Just wonder if other PDF reader apps have a similar feature. |

Just burned my IOS CaliberCompanion App to the ground thanks to their shady and underhanded business practices. Is it possible to use custom columns in Calibre (#my_shelves) inside the MapleRead application?
That lower left conical filtering icon on the app might be a good spot for something like that. Second question, is there a method for Caliber to manage the loading of books into the MapleRead app? My collection is in the thousands and I'm trying to work on syncing it. Last edited by Primus_Pilus; 04-03-2020 at 04:56 PM. |

MapleRead 3.4 was just released today.
The hardware keyboard shortcuts are pretty well done, and work like a charm. |

Been on the lookout for a new app for a while and this is almost the perfect app for me. Unless I am missing something the one thing I am really missing is the ability to sort by tag and series. For example if I sort by Tags it’s perfect however I can no longer see series information anywhere either and in addition those that are in a series are completely out of order as well.

So I have my Calibre library hosted over OPDS and have been experimenting with conversion to EPUB3 vs EPUB2, different apps, how they handle metadata, etc.
Here are the issues I am having with MapleReader: 1. Doesn't seem to pull the Series / Series Number metadata by itself. If I download a series, that information is blank, but if I do Long Press > Get Info > Edit > Click Series / Volume > Restore from Book it retrieves the correct Series / Volume... I just can't be asked to do that for all my books, or even a series of books every time I read one, it's very tedious. Does anyone know how to make it just pull that metadata by itself? I should note that the above is true for EPUB2. For EPUB3, if I try the same I get a popup saying "No pertinent embedded metadata is found". Granted I have not found any of the other apps that would read Series / Series # from EPUB3. 2. One of my book covers shows up shrunken compared to the other ones; I tried different image sizes in Calibre and delete / redownload book, didn't seem to help. 3. On the main screen for Sort, I selected Author + Series. This seems to be correct, except it's using Author instead of Author Sort (e.g. Brent Weeks instead of Weeks, Brent). This one is the most minor, but if anyone knows a way to get the behavior I want I'd appreciate it. 4. When reading a book, if I click A > More and enable Header, Footer, disable Dim Header / Footer, Center Header / Footer, Progress Bar, Whole-Book Page Numbering, I'd expect to see basic header / footer like the book's title in the Header and the page number out of the whole book in the Footer, with a progress bar if I click on it. I don't see either a header or footer at. Can anyone help with this? Other than those issues above MapleReader seems pretty great; I love that when you are downloading from OPDS you can just go to a Series, then click Download > All > Bulk Download and it downloads all at once (though I do dislike that it takes me out of OPDS to the download Queue). The UI is a bit weird, like the "flipping between" button in the top left, etc. I'd appreciate any help, as I'm trying to get my library sorted out and finally put in the effort to download / fix consistent covers. |

I have sorted out number 4; it turned out I had to increase the vertical margin enough for those things to show up. Still haven't found a solution for 1 though. |

I don't have a problem for your #1 above. Calibre Server works very well with MapleRead. Are you sure you're talking about Calibre Server, or something else that is officially part of Calibre?

I recently got a Humble Bundle filled with many epubs of graphic novels -- they appear correctly in Books, but in MapleRead there's a blank page between every two pages, which makes following the story much harder. Is there a way to change MapleRead's behavior, or should I just use Books for these?
