@NiLuJe, sorry I should have been more clearer that the file I used was the main-htmlviewer.tar.gz both from the tarball and from BD's release thread. However, after reading your post I think I know where it went all wrong. what I did wrong was to 'factory reset' 5.7.4 while desperately attempting to get main-htmlviewer.tar.gz (v 1.1) to work. When you pointed me to the snapshot (V 1.2) the device was now running the production FW. Basically I was now trying (V 1.2) on production FW. What I need to do is to re-install factory FW 5.7.4 and run main-htmlviewer.tar.gz from BD's release thread Am at work at the moment so I will try that when I get home and I will report back. Thanks |

I have not worked on the spoiler'd details (yet).
Will see if I can fit in the point that DO_FACTORY_RESTORE and 'Reset' does a: factory image -> consumer image conversion, and only the factory image recognizes the search bar command used. |

A great big thank you to all involved! I thought I had no need for this as I'd already jailbroken my Voyage with BD's jailbreak earlier, but I'd been lurking and reading every post with great interest. Then on the 10th, my Voyage died. Had to send it in and of course without this great method I would be up the creek without the jailbreak. Worked wonderfully and I'm now using KOReader in nightmode and have KUAL, KPVBooklet and others installed.

Hello,
I have a Kindle PaperWhite 2, serial number beginning with 9017. I have applied the "initial factory firmware recovery image" to the device. Then I installed "DuoKan" system. The "DuoKan" system prompted for an update, but the update failed, the "DuoKan" system seemed to remove itself and rebooted back to the Amazon system. Now my question is: Can I "re-apply" the initial factory firmware recovery image to make a factory reset to my KPW2? Is such firmware installation a complete factory reset? Thank you. |

Doukan is not supported here.
No. 'Reset (to factory defaults)' then 'downgrade to factory' is the best you can do and MUST be in that order. |

Additional features in factory image?
After jailbreaking my PW3, I've retained the factory image(5.7.4) and not updated to a later version.
Did this because knc1 mentioned some extra features were available in the factory image (which aren't present in the customer image). Could we get a list of these features? I think some are the ";xxx" entry in the search bar. Apart from the ";711" command to get the network status, I can't remember any other which were useful on a regular basis. |

The search bar commands are listed in a *.json file
They are implemented in scripts of /usr/local/bin |

Hello everyone. It's great to see that I might just be able to jailbreak my PW3 at last
![]() However, I am trying to follow the instructions at the top post, and the pastebin link is not working for me. I tried to look for the .bin updates elsewhere, but I don't want to risk bricking my Kindle. Could you guys fix that? I am eager to try the steps and maybe help out a little bit with the documentation effort. Thanks! |
