Twisted Justice is the second in the Willa Carson series by Diane Capri. It has dropped to $0.99 at Kindle US. Per SYKM, this was also published as George's Game, and furthermore SYKM indicates that this is a revised version of Justice Denied (2000), and notes to also see Marital Privilege (2004). Whew! I haven't read this series myself, so can't offer any insight...

Spoiler:
Quote:
New York Times and USA Today Bestselling Author DIANE CAPRI Returns to Tampa in this gripping suspense novel featuring Judge Willa Carson

Charismatic Federal Judge Willa Carson is devoted to two things: her job and her loving husband George. But when a controversial war hero is nominated to the U.S. Supreme Court, Willa’s normally easy-going husband throws himself into the fight, determined to thwart the nomination. His relentless campaign strains their marriage and Willa’s faith in him, until the General is killed. And George is arrested for murder…

Willa is determined to save the man who’s been her anchor for seventeen years. But does that man still exist? As Willa delves into her husband’s web of secrets, scandals, and political scheming, she’s forced to uncover George’s game. Is he the calculating killer the world believes or a deceived victim of twisted justice?

Love and politics are at their dirtiest in this tightly-plotted, character-driven novel. A complex thriller, with a shocking ending, this is the book Judge Willa fans have been waiting for!

Realistic twists and turns keep readers engaged and guessing until the finale!

I also should note that if you like to read in order, the first in this series, Due Justice, is available as part of a freebie double book bundle called Florida Is Murder. It contains Due Justice by Capri and Surface Tension by Christine Kling.

The Norfolk Mystery is the first in the Swanton Morley series by Ian Sansom. It has dropped to $0.99 at Kindle US.

link: https://www.amazon.com/Norfolk-Myste.../dp/B00E7RX68A

Spoiler:
Quote:
Love Miss Marple? Adore Holmes and Watson? Professor Morley's guide to Norfolk is a story of bygone England: quaint villages, eccentric locals—and murder …

It is 1937, and disillusioned Spanish Civil War veteran Stephen Sefton is broke. So when he sees a mysterious advertisement for a job where "intelligence is essential," he eagerly applies.

Thus begins Sefton's association with Professor Swanton Morley, an omnivorous intellect. Morley's latest project is a history of traditional England, with a guide to every county.

They start in Norfolk, but when the vicar of Blakeney is found hanging from his church's bell rope, Morley and Sefton find themselves drawn into a rather more fiendish plot. Did the reverend really take his own life, or is there something darker afoot?

A must-read for fans of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, Agatha Christie, and Charles Todd, this novel includes plenty of murder, mystery, and mayhem to confound.

The first book in the Joanna Brady series and the first book in the JP Beaumont series, both by JA Jance, have dropped to $1.99 at Kindle US.

Desert Heat, #1 in Joanna Brady
link: https://www.amazon.com/Desert-Heat-J.../dp/B000FC11DS
Spoiler:
Quote:
A cop lies dying beneath the blistering Arizona sun—a local lawman who may well have become the next sheriff of Cochise County. The police brass claim that Andy Brady was dirty, and that his shooting was a suicide attempt. Joanna Brady, his devoted wife and mother of their nine-year-old daughter, knows a cover-up when she hears one . . . and murder when she sees it. But her determined efforts to hunt down an assassin and clear her husband's name are placing Joanna and her surviving family in harm's way—because in the desert, the one thing more lethal than a rattler's bite . . . is the truth.

Until Proven Guilty, #1 in JP Beaumont
link: https://www.amazon.com/Until-Proven-.../dp/B000FC14CG
Spoiler:

Until Proven Guilty—a riveting tale of the very worst kind of murder—marks the debut of Seattle Homicide Detective J.P. Beaumont. This Premium Plus edition of Until Proven Guilty—the classic novel that put the incomparable Jance on the crime fiction map—indisputably proves that she truly belongs “in the elite company of Sue Grafton and Patricia Cornwell” (Flint Journal).

Woof at the Door is the first in the Call of the Wilde series by Laura Morrigan. It has dropped to $1.99 at Kindle US.

link: https://www.amazon.com/Woof-Door-Cal.../dp/B009NY2OP8

Spoiler:
Quote:
Animal behaviorist Grace Wilde keeps her ability to psychically communicate with furry and feathered critters under wraps. But when a Doberman turns out to be the only witness to a crime, Grace will have to let the cat out of the bag in order to catch a killer.

Grace Wilde’s job is anything but normal. When she’s not helping out at the zoo by comforting agitated lemurs, she’s listening to the woes of annoyed house pets. Grace’s life gets even more complicated, though, when the cops summon her to a crime scene to help deal with the murder victim’s terrified Doberman.

The pooch turns out to be the only one who saw what happened the night of the shooting—and only Grace can get the information out of him. The problem is, how will Grace tell the distractingly gorgeous Sergeant Kai Duncan that it’s the dog who’s giving her the intel without spilling her big secret or sounding crazy? Left on her own, Grace will have to follow the pup’s lead to track down the killer. But she’ll have to be careful—or curiosity may end up killing the cat whisperer.

The classic And Then There Were None by Agatha Christie (also published as Ten Little Indians, and originally as the now even more politically incorrect Ten Little Niggers), has dropped to $1.99 at Kindle US. Per Wikipedia, it has sold more than 100 million copies, making it the world's best-selling mystery

Quote:
The world's best-selling mystery with over 100 million copies sold!
Ten people, each with something to hide and something to fear, are invited to a lonely mansion on Indian Island by a host who, surprisingly, fails to appear. On the island they are cut off from everything but each other and the inescapable shadows of their own past lives. One by one, the guests share the darkest secrets of their wicked pasts. And one by one, they die…

Shadows of a Down East Summer by Lea Wait and Devil's Food by Kerry Greenwood have both just dropped to $2.99 at Kindle US. This is about my personal limit for posting, so here they are. BTW, both are also available and couponable at Kobo US.

Shadows of a Down East Summer is the fifth in Wait's Maggie Summer series.
link: https://www.amazon.com/Shadows-Down-.../dp/B004VBHN5Y
Spoiler:
Quote:
Antique print dealer Maggie Summer’s Maine vacation is unexpectedly interrupted when she finds herself the heir to four generations of family secrets involving unrequited love, jealousy, art-and murder. In the summer of 1890, two young women posed for artist Winslow Homer on the coast of Maine. What happened that summer, the secrets the women kept, and the lies they told, changed their families forever. Now, more than a hundred years later, one of their descendants has been murdered, leaving to antique print dealer Maggie Summer the family papers that may finally reveal the truth. Maggie's vision of a relaxing vacation in Maine -- antiquing with beau Will Brewer and visiting his Aunt Nettie -- turns into a murder investigation. Maggie must discover which of the family myths are based on reality, before someone she cares about becomes the next victim.

Devil's Food is the third in Greenwood's Corinna Chapman series.
link: https://www.amazon.com/Devils-Food-C.../dp/B007H9F066
Spoiler:
Quote:
As owner of the Earthly Delights bakery, Corinna Chapman is used to unusual requests, but she’s never been asked to make a recipe taste worse before. The monks of the Discarnate Brotherhood prefer their “famine bread” on the more sawdusty-side of unpalatable—curious customers. And they’re not the only mortifiers of the flesh preaching hunger as the solution to Melbourne’s troubled masses. Someone’s peddling a particularly potent herbal “diet tea” that almost does-in Corinna’s two young shop assistants; a body turns up in the park, dead of malnutrition; Corinna’s mother arrives unexpectedly, ejected from her commune for forcing her own extreme dietary views on the collective. There are a lot of people with food issues making life pretty complicated for a plus-sized baker who just wants to make the perfect muffin.

I hope this is an indicator that Open Road might put a bunch of the Mr. and Mrs. North titles on sale sometime soon, as they did for their Catherine Aird titles a while after they came out. I adore the Mr. and Mrs. North series, but $7.99 to $9.49 each is way too much for me to replace my DTB copies.

The Leper Ship is the third in the Richard Mariner thriller-ish looking series by Peter Tonkin. It is a US Kindle Countdown deal at $0.99 for the next 6 days or so.

Spoiler:
Quote:
While removing toxic waste from a dead zone in the Palestinian desert, the captain of the Napoli is killed by local villagers whose land and families have been destroyed.

Fully laden, the Napoli limps off to Cyprus, but desperately needs a new master—and Heritage Mariner of London are requested to provide one.

Recalled from his honeymoon, John Higgins is the only captain available.

But this ship has trouble written all over her.

She’s an ageing rust-bucket with a multi-racial crew, and the containers on board are filled with chemical and nuclear poison.

Still, Higgins’ orders are simple enough: take her home to Naples.

But, when they arrive, they find this is only the first of many ports to refuse the leper ship entry.

With an increasingly mutinous crew, and acidic waste eating away at her insides, there seems nowhere left to turn...

The Leper Ship is an action-packed thriller from a master of naval warfare.

Spoiler:
To Ken Beacham, Social Security Inspector, the question seemed quite simple: did Leonard Trent crash his car before or after contacting his Managing Director?

On this simple fact rests the entitlement of his widow Virginia Trent to an Industrial Death Pension.

But then the violent death of the Managing Director blurs the issue, and Ken Beacham finds himself investigating what could have been a murder.

Steadily and insidiously, the background to Trent’s death absorbs him — as does his passion for Kaye Trotter, the last person to have seen Trent alive.

Though his marriage is breaking down, and Kaye has introduced a new and unsettling version of the events leading to Leonard Trent’s death, Ken feels compelled to persist in his search for the truth.

But could it cost him his wife, his job, and perhaps, Kaye too...?

The first three titles in the Chicago World's Fair series by Shelley Gray are Nook Daily Find deals at $1.99 each and also available at Kindle US for the same prices. These look pretty romance-y, but are listed as mysteries too.

Secrets of Sloane House, #1
link: https://www.amazon.com/Secrets-Sloan.../dp/B00GRYXP5A
Spoiler:
Quote:
Against the backdrop of the 1893 World’s Fair, a young woman finds employment with an illustrious Chicago family—a family who may guard the secret of her sister’s disappearance.

Sloane House is among the most gilded mansions of Gilded Age Chicago. Rosalind Perry, the new housemaid, pours the morning coffee before the hard gaze of her mistress.

“It’s simple, Rosalind,” she says. “I am Veronica Sloane, heiress to one of the country’s greatest fortunes. You are simply one in a long line of unsuitable maids.”

Back on the farm in Wisconsin, Rosalind’s plan had seemed logical: Move to Chicago. Get hired on at Sloane House. Discover what transpired while her sister worked as a maid there—and follow the clues to why she disappeared.

Now, as a live-in housemaid to the Sloanes, Rosalind realizes her plan had been woefully simple-minded.

She was ignorant of the hard, hidden life of a servant in a big, prominent house; of the divide between the Sloane family and the people who served them; and most of all, she had never imagined so many people could live in such proximity and keep such dark secrets.

Yet, while Sloane House is daunting, the streets of Chicago are downright dangerous. The World’s Fair has brought a new kind of crime to the city . . . and a lonely young woman is always at risk. But when Rosalind accepts the friendship of Reid Armstrong, the handsome young heir to a Chicago silver fortune, she becomes an accidental rival to Veronica Sloane.

As Rosalind continues to disguise her kinship to the missing maid—and struggles to appease her jealous mistress—she probes the dark secrets of Sloane House and comes ever closer to uncovering her sister’s mysterious fate. A fate that everyone in the house seems to know . . . but which no one dares to name.

Deception on Sable Hill, #2
link: https://www.amazon.com/Deception-Sab.../dp/B00N10ZHIQ
Spoiler:
Quote:
The World’s Fair has introduced many new ideas to Chicago society—but can two individuals from very different backgrounds find love together?

It’s mid-September 1893 and Eloisa Carstairs is the reigning debutant of Gilded Age Chicago society. To outsiders she appears to have it all. But Eloisa is living with a dark secret. Several months ago, she endured a horrible assault at the hands of Douglass Sloane, heir to one of Chicago’s wealthiest families. Fearing the loss of her reputation, Eloisa confided in only one friend. That is, until she meets Detective Sean Ryan at a high-society ball.

Sean is on the fringes of the Chicago elite. Born into a poor Irish family, becoming a policeman was his best chance to ensure security. Despite social boundaries, he is enamored with Eloisa Carstairs. Sean will do anything to keep her safe—even if he can never earn her affections.

Eloisa longs to feel normal again, but a killer is on the loose. In the last month, three debutants have been accosted by an assailant wielding a knife, and Eloisa fears for her safety at every event she attends. As the danger in the city increases, and as the romance between Eloisa and Sean blossoms, they both realize they want to be seen as more than how the world views them. Lydia’s job at the library is her world—until a mysterious patron catches her eye . . . and perhaps her heart.

Just months after the closure of the Chicago World’s Fair, librarian Lydia Bancroft finds herself fascinated by a mysterious dark-haired and dark-eyed patron. He has never given her his name; he actually never speaks to a single person. All she knows about him is that he loves books as much as she does.

Only when he rescues her in the lobby of the Hartman Hotel does she discover that his name is Sebastian Marks. She also discovers that he lives at the top of the prestigious hotel and that most everyone in Chicago is intrigued by him.

Lydia and Sebastian form a fragile friendship, but when she discovers that Mr. Marks isn’t merely a very wealthy gentleman, but also the proprietor of an infamous saloon and gambling club, she is shocked.

Lydia insists on visiting the club one fateful night and suddenly is a suspect to a murder. She must determine who she can trust, who is innocent, and if Sebastian Marks—the man so many people fear—is actually everything her heart believes him to be.
