Thank you! Can't figure out how to get the back off...when I do I only get the frame around the screen...do I need to remove the screws?

The operation was a success! Thanks to those who provided guidance throughout this thread and to Davidfor for supplying the link to the fimware image.

I replaced the original MicroSD card with one with an 8GB capacity and a speed of 30 MB per second. According to Wikpedia this is equivalent to UHS Speed Class 3 and refers to speed of writing rather than reading. However, I think my N647B might be operating a little bit more quickly and smoothly as a result. And obviously I have more internal storage after expanding the KoboEreader partition into the largest unallocated space.

It's probably also worth noting that I used a Phillips size 0 screwdriver.

The only problem is that the lower right part of the bezel is a little loose and makes clicking noises if I press it, but I have a feeling that it might have been like that before I dismantled the ereader.

Hi,

I hate to jump on the train here, but my wife's Kobo kicked the bucket; and everything I've read says that from all of the symptoms, I'll have to replace the firmware on it to fix. Is there an image available for me to mount?

geekofmanytrades: Which version of the WiFi? There are three. The model number should be on the end of the device. It could be N647, N647B or N289. You need the correct image to get it working.

Ah, my mistake. I had assumed the models were all the same aside from the colour. The SN on the end of the Kobo says N647. No B.

There were two updates to the internal hardware during the life of the WiFi. And the colour is another part of the extended model number.

Thank you very much! My response was delayed a bit due to my wife moving the SD card adapter, but this morning I followed the tutorial by Gergith and it worked perfectly. Now the Kobo is reset to factory, and is actually working again.

I am having the same issue with the Kobo WiFi (N647) and the Software Version 1.9.12. Is there any chance anyone still has a working link to the correct SD image for the N647 model that they could send me? It would be greatly appreciated.

Hi All,

I also have this same issue with my old trusty Kobo Wifi N289 software version 1.9.12. All of a sudden "Updating your software" and "No books found" every time I turn it on. Calibre no longer recognizes it either. Tried all the reset, hard reset factory reset suggestions from the thread, even tried to copy 1.9.12 firmware update to the .kobo directory but it made no difference.

My last hope is reflashing the microSD card might help. Please, please send me the link to the image, it would be much appreciated.
