The dreaming quote makes me think of George du Maurier, but the next one doesn't fit.

Nope ...
“People who are not in love fail to understand how an intelligent man can suffer because of a very ordinary woman. This is like being surprised that anyone should be stricken with cholera because of a creature so insignificant as the common bacillus.” “Always try to keep a patch of sky above your life.” |

So though taking all the quotes in consideration it can't be so, I will toss out the name J. M. Barrie. Mainly I mention him because Peter Pan (the novel) turns 100. Peter Pan A Century On Peter Pan, the novel that puts the lie to the great fraud all parents must play on their children. That for those children who have by-and-large happy experience during the sweet spot of childhood, say 2 to 10 years old, that growing up is something to look forward to. "I won't grow up. I won't grow up."
Returning to the matter at hand. These are great quotes, as were the previous Graham Greene quotes. Would never have guessed that, and I am stumped here. |

Still no weiners! Errrr.... winners ....
[It's a very famous book, but I'm using some "less obvious" quotes to tantalize your brains!] “Love is a striking example of how little reality means to us.” “Even in the most insignificant details of our daily life, none of us can be said to constitute a material whole, which is identical for everyone, and need only be turned up like a page in an account-book or the record of a will; our social personality is created by the thoughts of other people.” |

Still more:
“Love is space and time measured by the heart.” “The places that we have known belong now only to the little world of space on which we map them for our own convenience. None of them was ever more than a thin slice, held between the contiguous impressions that composed our life at that time; remembrance of a particular form is but regret for a particular moment; and houses, roads, avenues are as fugitive, alas, as the years.” |

I think I've got it. Has to be Proust, and Swann's Way.
in the interest of full disclosure, I have the whole mighty tome, but haven't made much headway. |

You are indeed correct - as to author and specific volume!
“...the memory of a particular image is but regret for a particular moment..” Take it away Issy! [don't forget to have a madeleine with your tea!] |

I don’t suppose she would recognize a deep, beautiful thought if you handed it to her on a skewer with tartare sauce.

Another for fun while you're thinking; then I'll get more specific:
It is no use telling me there are bad aunts and good aunts. At the core, they are all alike. Sooner or later, out pops the cloven hoof. |

Wodehouse, yes. I believe specifically, Right Ho, Jeeves (or was it The Cat Nappers?).

Neither Right Ho nor Cat Nappers. This should pin it down:
'Have you ever seen Spode eat asparagus?' 'No.' 'Revolting. It alters one's whole conception of Man as Nature's last word.' |
