I like doukan and all but I hate upgrading the thing since I have heart attacks when I have to reboot the kindle.

Is this one in English? That's all I'm really concerned about in the process.

It will come up with Chinese character after first first reboot. Just press menu->setup, and select the entry with the wrench icon. Then you are in the Settings-menu. Page forward until you see that date&time. Language selection is the 1st entry below it, and in that menu select the very last, which is English. It will immediately change all character to English.

May understand that the heart may beat a little harder, - but in fact, it is not such a big deal. If you already have Duokan, you may do the opposite - select Chinese in the language settings and select English again in order to familiarize yourself a bit with it.

A stupid question? How can I see the pictures in Duokan?! If I put them into the dk_documents or dk_pictures the device doesn't show them. Where is the right place to move the image files? TY

1 alt +sym in home screen
2 goto page 3/4
3 under the date set you'll see chines the 语言( meas language )
4 just press into 语言 and select the third Option you'll see english now

Attempting to see if it is possible to get something more out of the usb-network used in Duokan, - written some post "over there", but.. ... well...

Did also propose the following. It is basically what I had in mind with my first YoCan reader - an open source project idea, but guess I spent too much time with Duokan in the hope it would come around..

Multi Reader Proposal:

In essence, this is several different readers, joined by IPC-messages. To make some simple example:
In Windows you may open NOTEPAD and WORDPAD and you can cut/paste through a scratch-pad (IPC-messages..)
Notepad works for ascii text and Wordpad works for utf-8. In a similar way, switching between 2 book readers,
utf-8 and GB18030-2005 based for example. Code translation could be inserted into the Cut/Paste scratch pad.

In my view, Duokan-Kindle may be a valuable language tool and the dictionaries are essential. There may be added value to being able to flip between the different Notepad/Wordpad - or separate books: You may have the same
book in two different languages and alternate between the languages.

Haven't had time/resources to put it into action myself.

Note: - this could simplify Stardict usage, European-latin support and avoid some of the current conflict that probably will repeat itself for a number of other languages. ( btw. - FBReader/fbkindle may be an option )

hi, from the previous post here, it looks like I may ask some language question here, instead of my struggle with attempting to post on the Duokan site

Missing characters in software - and the directory name came up with 4 square boxes,
but the folder should probably be " 多看科技" but what would be a proper name ? Think of Duokan as a brandname, and perhaps the folder should be "Duokan Software" or ??

Do you read the character backwards ?? or as they appear ...
[duo]+[kan]+[ke]+[ji] ? - anyway, attached my attempt to translate the readme.rtf text in the package. ( spent a lot of time with the pdf files - but this short file seems to tell most of it ) However, no luck in having the Kindle connect with it. It looked like the later version did not switch between wifi attempts and usbnet ?

It would be neat to network Calibre or have a small program working somewhat like a bookstore on your private computer or lan-network. Have a DXG and it is so cumbersome to be without wifi ! I bought it to read documents, not buy books at Amazon, so...

Oh, if anyone knows how I may rip out the 3G and replace it with Wifi - plz. let me know !

PLEASE check the size of the download. For some reason, the download terminated too early. Unpacking without error, while it sure was only a partial download !

I installed the last version of Duokan but doesn't work on kindle with firmware 3.1. As far as I have understood this should work with 3.1.

But I had problems: the update process stops indicating "Error 3 press R to restore the system".

Any advice?
