A couple of years later, this is free again. It's also free at Kindle UK this time around, and doesn't seem to be available at Kobo right now. (Maybe Flynn went Kindle exclusive?) And BN's website is giving me error message and says it's down right now, so I can't check there.

In any case, the link below for Kindle US is still good, and here's a Kindle UK link: https://www.amazon.co.uk/Presidents-...dp/B00DPYK8KK/

I have however, read and enjoyed almost all of the books in this series as well as some books in a spin-off series.

Henchman is free right now as the BN Readouts free weekend reading, and is also free at Kindle and Kobo US.

Red Land, Black Land: Daily Life in Ancient Egypt is a really nice "history" of ancient Egypt, with more emphasis on the lives of the common people than you sometimes get in books like this. It's by Barbara Mertz, who is perhaps better known (in this thread, at least) as Elizabeth Peters, the author of the Amelia Peabody, Jacqueline Kirby, and Vicky Bliss mystery series.

Red Land has dropped to $2.99 at Kindle and Kobo US - here's a cross-post to more info in the Non-fiction thread: https://www.mobileread.com/forums/sh....php?p=4132896

James Bond 14 book series by Ian Flemming is $.99 each book today at Amazon. For some reason, when I clicked on the buy all button, I got them for .89 cents per book. I am so cheap.

The Body in the Wardrobe is a fairly recent (2016) title in the Faith Fairchild series by Katherine Hall Page. It has dropped to $1.99 at Kindle and Kobo US. I've read and enjoyed several titles in this series, especially The Body in the Vestibule, which is set in Lyon, France. (And I'm quite fond of mysteries set in France...)

Spoiler:
Quote:
Minster’s wife, caterer, and part-time sleuth Faith Fairchild pairs up with Sophie Maxwell, last seen in Body in the Birches and now a newlywed living in historic Savannah, Georgia, where Sophie crosses paths with murder. Another delightful entry in the beloved mystery series, complete with delectable recipes.

Attorney Sophie Maxwell has come to Savannah to be with her new husband, Will. But nothing throws cold water on a hot relationship faster than a dead body. Worse for Sophie, no one believes the body she knows she saw is real. Will is spending an awful lot of time in Atlanta on a case he claims is urgent, and she’s been tasked with house hunting for them with his former sweetheart, who Sophie can’t help but suspect wishes Sophie would return to her Yankee roots!

Fortunately, Sophie has a good friend in Faith Fairchild. With teenage Amy being bullied by mean girls and husband Tom contemplating a major life change that will affect all the Fairchilds, Faith is eager for distraction in the form of some sleuthing. In between discussions of newlywed agita, surprising Savannah customs and, of course, fabulous low country food, Faith and Sophie will pair up to unmask a killer!

Quote:
Juggling a family and a career has never been easy for Cochise County Sheriff Joanna Brady. Now the impending birth of her second child only adds to her burden, especially when two brutal crimes fall under her jurisdiction.

A corpse is discovered in the Arizona desert with the fingers severed from both hands—the body of an ex-con who served twenty years for a murder he claimed not to remember. Soon after, one of Joanna's female officers is savagely assaulted and left for dead while on an unauthorized stakeout. Since the victim is one of their own, the department directs the bulk of its resources toward finding her attacker. But the desert slaying haunts Joanna as well, and neither her pregnancy nor family concerns will keep her from doing her duty, no matter how perilous. Because justice must be served. And enforcing the law has become more than what Joanna Brady does—it's what she is.

The Fallen Man is the 12th in the Joe Leaphorn/Jim Chee series by Tony Hillerman. This is a great series, although I'm perhaps a little biased because my dad's family is from the region. Still, some of the series books have won/been nominated for lots of awards, and this one has a 4.8 out of 5.0 rating at Amazon US. It has dropped to $1.99 at Kindle and Kobo US. Hillerman's books (other than the first few) don't go on sale very often, so grab it if you want it.

Spoiler:
Quote:
Human bones lie on a ledge under the peak of Ship Rock mountain, the remains of a murder victim undisturbed for more than a decade. Three hundred miles across the Navajo reservation, a harmless old canyon guide is felled by a sniper's bullet.

Joe Leaphorn, recently retired from the Navajo Tribal Police, believes the shooter and the skeleton are somehow connected and recalls a chilling puzzle he was previously unable to solve. But Acting Lieutenant Jim Chee is too busy to take an interest in a dusty cold case . . . until the reborn violence of it hits much too close to home.

Death Below Stairs is the first in Jennifer Ashley's Kat Holloway/Below Stairs mystery series. Ashley is probably better known for her Captain Gabriel Lacey series, which she wrote using the pen name, Ashley Gardner. I've read and enjoyed that series, but haven't yet read this book. Stairs has dropped to £1.99 at Kindle UK.

Kindle UK: https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B06Y4RCLQX
Kindle UK/Smile: https://smile.amazon.co.uk/dp/B06Y4RCLQX

Spoiler:
Quote:
Victorian class lines are crossed when cook Kat Holloway is drawn into a murder that reaches all the way to the throne.

Highly sought-after young cook Kat Holloway takes a position in a Mayfair mansion and soon finds herself immersed in the odd household of Lord Rankin. Kat is unbothered by the family’s eccentricities as long as they stay away from her kitchen, but trouble finds its way below stairs when her young Irish assistant is murdered.

Intent on discovering who killed the helpless kitchen maid, Kat turns to the ever-capable Daniel McAdam, who is certainly much more than the charming delivery man he pretends to be. Along with the assistance of Lord Rankin’s unconventional sister-in-law and a mathematical genius, Kat and Daniel discover that the household murder was the barest tip of a plot rife with danger and treason—one that’s a threat to Queen Victoria herself.

Just when you thought you didn't need any more books/series to read...the Kindle UK monthly deal on crime books appears to be a first-in-series sale. Most seem to be priced at £0.99, some are more.

I noticed first-in-series books by:
SJ Bennett
James Patterson
Elly Griffiths
Kathy Reichs
Donna Leon
Mick Herron
SW Perry
PD James
Diana Gabaldon (Lord John series, not Outlander)
Steig Larsson
Andrea Camilleri
TE Kinsey
Nora Roberts (Night Tales, not In Death)
Kerry Greenwood
Reginald Hill
Nicola Upson
Fred Vargas
Michael Dibdin
CJ Box (not a first-in-series)
Steph Cha

Also included are a lot of Amazon-published first-in-series, but these go on sale a lot, so I generally didn't list them.

This very incomplete list includes authors to my taste, and/or authors I recognize as being super-popular, so YMMV. If your favorite author isn't listed, check out the sale anyway - there are 108 mysteries in the sale, so they may be there.

Link to the sale: https://smile.amazon.co.uk/s?i=digit...s_bw_c2_x_c2cl
