Hmmm.... looking at my library in calibre, I added 1134 books during 2020. Currently, I have 3 which I have not finished reading, one of which is in progress. Most of the books are light reading though I did add 56 books that are computer security, infrastructure, etc. oriented.
This is more than my average year but thanks to working from home 4 days a week, I have had extra hours in which to read instead of commuting. |

Recap of 2020, goals for 2021
Ending the year with 185 owned but unread ebooks and paperbooks. I began with 162, acquired 30 newbies, found 7 uncounted books, and deleted 1 I’m sure I’ll never read. Of these owned books I read 13. That’s 30 new books and 13 read.
Overall, I read 84 books of which 46 were borrowed, 13 were owned, 12 were audiobooks either borrowed or owned, and 13 were advance reading copies. Goals for the next year are to buy fewer books and read more of what I already have. Also, I’m setting a LibraryThing ROOT (Read Our Own Tomes) goal of 18 books including audio. We’ll see how it goes. 01/31 - 184 02/28 - 183 03/31 - 183 04/30 - 185 05/31 - 184 06/30 - 184 07/31 - 185 08/31 - 181 09/30 - 178 10/31 - 179 11/30 - 179 12/31 - 179 Last edited by wandalynn; 12-31-2021 at 12:18 PM. |

Amazon finally gave me the $10 promo credit they offered in October. I've bought 4 books with it so far and have about $3 left. I guess on the one hand it's bad but on the other it's free books I probably wouldn't have gotten otherwise.

If I can end 2021 with less than 50 bought I'll consider it a triumph. (Althought two bought already this year - monthly deals at Amazon that were on my wish list.) |

I did well with my spending but that is tempered by the fact I didn't read much in 2020.
Only four books purchased totalling $15.96. Two read. For the year, I read 24 books but most were library loans or freebies I picked up over the years. I did abandon 5 books plus removed a good number of others from my TBR pile. This year will be interesting because I took advantage of a free 3 month KU offer starting today. I don't know yet how this will affect future spends and loans. |

2020 was another purchasing year, so 2021 I really need to control. My TBR is now in the 4 digits for both audiobooks and ebooks and I can't really blame Whispersync for that any more. My goal for 2021 is to only buy books by authors that I currently already enjoy and not start on any new authors. I always wait for sales or discounts, but I have enough stand-alones and completed series now to keep me going for a year or two or more.
During 2020, I did get my audiobook TBR down 1, however, many of those books read were novellas and short stories and often replaced with full length novels. Based on my average of 120 hours per month, I have 8.25 years of unlistened audiobooks from most sources (missing some from Tantor plus CDs aren't counted). Pretty sad, but good in the fact that I really have no shortage of things to listen to. |

My local library turned over more items than any other library in the state. They pivoted to an incredible hold-to-chekcout system in early summer and have been improving on it every since. They also purchased a set of hold lockers and installed them in the local mall parking lot so folks could pick up homes 24/7. I am determined that all my new reads will come from that library or my local indie bookshop.

This year I came close to my goal of only buying one book a week (bought 57 books).
My TBR list is up 6 books from the beginning of the year (smallest increase since I started perusing ebook sales). |

But it sounds like you need to have a goal of at most one book bought per fortnight. Or increase the time you spend reading! |

I can no longer say that I haven't bought any books this year. My bank account/credit card says hold off until next month

I bought a three-volume set that's been on my list for a while, because it just went on sale. It's also not purely recreational reading; I understand it puts some interesting spins onto some superhero tropes I've been digging into recently.
Oh, and I also did my gift card credit balance a favor by reading the Absolute Carnage event through my local library's Hoopla connection. The five book/month limit meant I had to split the read between December and January, but I'm rather glad I didn't buy some of those volumes... |

I have begun reading the 20 volume Richard Sharpe series. That should help somewhat with my ebook purchasing addiction.
