Thanks. I was able to use 7-zip and have updated it to the latest version which has given a few new entries. Realising I had some outdated install files meant I could install python and LibrarianSync better too - I was having some issues with LibrarianSync.

Now trying to get all my Collections sorted. I wish there was a way to nest Collections within Collections as I've got so many different Star Wars and Dragonlance books that are within trilogies to hexalogies. I'm trying to work out the best way to categorise them.

I just received a new Kindle PW4. Before connecting to my wifi I created the blocker directory update.bin.tmp.partial. Connected to wifi and registered the device with Amazon and then I enabled airplane mode. Checked the firmware and it's on 5.10.3. Did my Kindle download an update even though I had the blocker folder? The device serial # is G000PP12. Is this a factory firmware and will a version ever be available to jailbreak?

As far as can tell 5.10.3. I added the blocker folder before enabling wifi and I immediately enabled airplane mode as soon as possible so I don't think an update was installed.

Suggestion 1:
You didn’t notice while installing the folder that an update bin was already there.
Suggestion 2:
The kindle had been returned once (maybe by a mobile read member) by someone who allowed it to update, then was resold to you.

PP12 is pretty new. My PW4 purchased during the Mother's Day sale was PP11 and came with 5.10.1.3.

Can you please share the third batch of digits from the serial number (9xxx)? That gives us an idea of manufacturing date.

Note, a firmware update is accompanied by a restart. If you enabled wifi for a very short time and the device didn't restart between then and when you checked the firmware version, it's possible you were unlucky enough to get a much later batch.

If you haven't written a lot of data to it yet, PM me. We might be able to extract a factory firmware from your PW4. Caveat, even if we do manage to extract factory firmware, it's possible the ;installHtml method has already been patched (it didn't work on new basic Kindle 10th gen 5.11.0).

The third batch of digits is 9167. Note, I went through the initial setup and I have yet to restart the Kindle so I'm pretty sure it came with 5.10.3. I like your idea that I got a refurb when I ordered a new Kindle.

That wasn't my idea. My guess is you have one of the latest batches. Again, if you haven't written to it much, it may be possible to extract factory firmware for 5.10.3.

I have only copied one book to the device. Do you think it's still possible to extract the factory firmware and if so how do I do it?

and followed these steps without signing in. I managed to JB successfully Right now I am a bit concerned tho, It is the one that comes with special offers. If I sign in at this point would that brick the device. I started reading on other posts that you cant JB if it is the one with special offers.

It is safe to register your account.
Just be sure you protect the jailbreak with the hotfix.
The Special offers will kick in and, until you remove special offers, you will not be able to use the screen saver hack. And all the hacks that work for your relevant model and firmware should work if you’ve applied the appropriate hack. Just be sure to follow instructions.

Sorry for the double post, but I ran into an error with the hotfix part. I don't understand this "KUAL & MPRI" thing at all or what I'm supposed to do with them.

I put the .bin file on the root and I try to update and I get ERROR: 007
