If you need it for taking notes, I don't believe Boox Note is a good option for now (if the other apps support the Onyx pen, it will be the best on this part), for the rest I believe is the best eink tablet in the market.

Since you already have the reMarkable and are happy with it, you should probably wait until after the next update to the Note to decide.

From what I gather, the note taking experience on the reMarkable is currently much better than on the Note. Hopefully, that will begin to change with the upcoming update.

According to cqman in another thread, the update to the Note should occur later this month:

The new update is planned to release this month depending on the progress of newly designed notepad app which is the main part of this coming update.

If the development were running smoothly, the new notepad app will solve the known bugs such as lost response, can't save properly when system auto shutdown etc. and will add a new eraser which acts like a real eraser instead of erase whole stroke.

We'll see, but we'd better not higher our expectation too much.

Another thing to be aware of is that the Note as sold in the US Amazon store does not seem to come with a case, nor do they seem to offer the case for sale separately yet. Strange.

So if you buy it through the US Amazon store, you may have to order the case from elsewhere if you want one... and I would highly recommend getting one if you will be carrying the device about. Also, because it has a loop for the stylus so that it will be much less likely to get lost.

I've made the difficult decision of holding off. (Unlike me!) I just can't see spending the money when I love the note taking function and feel of the reMarkable. I don't get a web browser, but I probably wouldn't use it much anyway. I appreciate all of your honesty. Maybe I'll actually get a vacation this year

You mentioned that you were satisfied with the note taking function and didn't ever complain its reading experience as many other reMarkable users. And the only advantage of reMarkable is its note taking at the moment. It meets your needs. That's enough.

In the long run, Boox Note has great potential for its hardware spec, but reMarkable will reach its dead end soon.

I would be surprised if there were more than a couple of software updates. Max Carta for example received no updates at all (beta doesn't count). In fact, I feel we might see the next Max by the end of this year or early next

As a user of both Max1 and Max2, I'm not happy with the software update status of Max1 in the past months. But I have to say there won't be any major update for the Android system on Max1 and Max Carta. Bugs fixing is for sure when they have enough manpower for software development.

The Neoreader on Max2 is the same version as on Max1 except for its wacom module. When the next version of Neoreader release, Max1 and Max Carta can also get software update.

Depends on what needs to happen on the device. Even the reMarkable could handle cloud based handwriting recognition. Theoretically at least as I don't believe they have enough money to develop such a thing. Neither does Onyx.

Any software support in the future? Let alone the hardware specs. Could any reMarkable user answer me one question?

Although as a crowdfunding project, reMarkable is way better than goodereader. Are you confident that you'll get several software updates in the future?

As I mentioned previously in the thread, I can read books just fine and their reader is more than suitable for reading and annotating.

IMPORTANT: This device has an internal SD that is slow (30MB/s for read and write) so, don't enable encryption, with initial password till now should be enough because the boot loader is locked.
If you still want to encrypt content, install Boxcryptor Classic on you device and your PC (only version 1.7) and use Dropsync to sync your files, I use this method even in my phone.

I've tried this with Nova Launcher, also with Apex in my Boox Note, nothing works. I also tried other specific lock screen apps at the Play Store, they work only if the device is temporarily put to sleep, but not when it is turned off completely... once it turns on, no lock is there. So, nothing has really worked. Any ideas?
