Right now, I'm waiting for work to be over and hoping those dark clouds blow away so I can go here after work http://www.birminghamartwalk.org/

And eat at the German restaraunt, and have street ice cream for dessert, and watch the street performers, and look at the art, and hear the bands, and generally pretend to be lots cooler and more sophisticated than I realy am, and basically it's Friday Date Nite with my husband, and I'm looking really hot in my black tank and little gauzy shrug sweater but I can take off the sweater if it gets too hot, but if we are, in fact, cooler than we really are we can walk really close to each other and put our hands in each other's back pockets, and look for a long-but-short painting to put over the headboard in that odd empty space, and gee I hope it doesn't rain but it looks like rain, maybe it will blow over before 6:00, if it rains we won't go, but I don't want to go tomorrow, that's when the kid's zone will be operating and it's in the hot afternoon, lots rather be there in the cool evening, well, sort of cool seeing as how it's about 80 degrees, which is lots cooler than last weekend at the Ala Butterbean Festival when it was midday and 98 degrees, got so hot that my ears were buzzing, but I got a sugar free snow cone....

I've been a bit overwrought today.

I plan to calm down over some meat schnitzel (veal, beef, chicken, it all comes out the same) and tater dumplings. All those carbs should make me drowsy and easily susceptical to artists hocking their paintings. Actually, if I have broken any single record, it's probably the one for number of coats used to go from nearly black to nearly white.

I have to go to the California Bar Association conference at the end of this month. Loads of really boring lectures ... with tons of important information, that I know I will miss ... because after a while, I sort of go zen and mentally check out.

Emailing friends to convey regrets on not making a party they are holding this weekend. They live in a "you can't get there from here" area, there is weather in this neck of the woods, our ride canceled due to it, and while we might get there, we'd likely arrive soaked. Outdoor barbecue was one of the planned events, but they doubt that will happen. So I must forgo the joys of single malt and barbecue, but am at least warm and dry.

Oh, my sympathies! We just heard from a friend who won't be able to visit today because some other people at work screwed up royally and he has to stay and clean up the mess, and by the time he's done we'll probably have the remains of Hanna overhead.

Right now I'm avoiding doing homework. I have to write a 1-2 page essay on "critical thinking"-- our thoughts before we read the first assignment for this week. My critical thought process at this point is devoted toward trying to figure out what the professor really wants, as I already am a proponent of critical thinking and don't expect that to change much based on the objectives of the course. Am I supposed to be resistant toward critical thinking at this point, or something?

the weather is bad here too (maybe not as bad as yours) so i am, on second thought, *not* going out to have a drink with a friend, but staying home where it is warm and dry instead. this seems to be a theme today. i suppose it's a good thing i went out for a drink with a friend yesterday or i'd be even crankier about it.

I am sighing a bit because the jazz concert I was planning to attend has been cancelled owing to local flooding. (It has been raining a lot in South Wales.) So I am listening to Philip Glass and putting the footnotes in an ebook.

Raining quite heavily here now, and has been for some time. My friend was stuck at work until after 6pm. On Saturday. And will have to go in again tomorrow morning.

I am quite unhappy with the people who caused this, even though I've never met them. Perhaps karmic retribution will provide them an invasion of fleas, or something.

I finished my essay on critical thinking. I hate the first assignment in the semester in classes like this. When it's math, I generally know whether I've gotten it right or wrong. I like writing, but when I have to write for someone else to grade, I really stress out about trying to figure out what the professor "really wants." I think it's insecurity, really. I'm not so much worried about a bad grade as worrying that I'll look like an idiot or (worse in some ways) get off on the wrong foot, politically. Bleah.

I spent the day at the hardware store again today ... but also swung by Walmart to get some new jeans and plain t-shirts. I've decided that new jeans are called for at the Bar Assn Conference. My old ones are becoming positively tattered.

It is hot and dry here again ... so I guess it's just the rest of the world that is getting rain. I wish it was just as easy as the rest of you packing it up and sending it here.

I'm packing it in early tonight. Lots to do tomorrow (with luck I will finish painting the pantry and get a start on some of my furniture building and repair projects).

We had Hanna in the Morning (yes, that was an old song by Greg Kihn) and after the rains we went to an Oktoberfest, My big project for the weekend is to clean out the filing cabinet and archive all the old client papers to make way for new ones. (Then the challenge is to get new ones.)
