Packt has been giving away a daily free book for over a year, and they had at least two sales last year for all ebooks at $5 each. I haven't been paying close attention, but I think most of their sales this year have been 5 for $50 bundles like the ones that just ended on Sunday or 50% off.

I was aware of that. In fact, I made at least one post about it a couple of years ago. It was more than I wanted to commit myself to to post every day's freebie, however. Especially since the content of these books is waaaay over my head and not in a subject that I'm interested in anyway. But I'm sure that there are a lot of newbies that have started reading this thread since then, so I'm glad that you brought it up. I'll look up the URL for the daily freebie and do a one-time mention of it again.

The daily freebie and sales that you mentioned are the reason that I said that Packt has a reputation in my mind of aggressively marketing their books and often heavily discounting them.

I think that a(the) 5 for $50 deal is going on now as a part of this current sale, if I understand the first blurb correctly that I quoted.
