Also, I think your numbers are flawed unless you are including several years to cover the cost of the hardware as the amount of people who Amazon would make money from in a year based on giving away this model would seem to be a fairly low subset of heavy users.

Not a bad idea Maybe they could offer discounts on the hardware depending on how many ebooks were purchased in the previous 12 months (obviously excluding freebies). That would be nice

Something like that will appear in due time, I would not be surprised if Amazon deferred the price of the least expensive Kindle provided you buy 50 books during a year. Imagine the impact of a Free Kindle offer. "We just want you to read", who could argue with a slogan like that?

I wasn't going to be quite that generous I was thinking maybe something like 50 books purchased in a year = £20 off a Kindle, 100 books = £50 off (the current prices in the UK are basic: £59; PW:£109; Voyage: £169)

Or perhaps a discount for Prime members. At the very least, they should offer free overnight shipping for prime members who pre-order a new Kindle at launch. That would be a cool perk.

In the UK, Prime includes free next day delivery.

Given that it's a variant of the Touch, it's almost certain to be 5.something. That will bring all the eInk Kindles up to firmware v5, which will probably make life easier for Amazon.

Figured I'd order it and then take my time deciding on what to do (can always cancel before it ships). Am coming from a K3 keyboard. Have mostly been reading on my android phone/tablet but really like the eink reader. With the light and the buttons the Voyage looks like my next toy.
