... and it's not the stuff we called 'GAK?' We made it using Elmer's glue and borax. Sometimes we'd use starch instead of the glue. Had the texture of a firmer slime. It didn't 'run,' and we used it as a surface dust remover.

Umm.... flubber and silly putty and GAK are the same thing - PVA cross-linked by a sodium borate solution.

The only Flubber I remember out side of the movie was a ball made of the stuff. It was much harder than rubber and had an outrageously huge bounce.

Actually true original Silly Putty is different. I deleted my more extensive post from earlier when I noticed that someone had named Flubber. The original Silly Putty is actually a cross-linked polymer prepared by mixing boric acid and silicone oil. It was discovered during WWII during an attempt to synthesize a replacement for natural rubber. You are correct though in that searching for recipes for Silly Putty these are identical to those for Flubber. In chemical composition the original Silly Putty is different from Flubber.

I only came to know this after Googling to find out why what I thought was the answer, Silly Putty, was not correct.
