Probably Amazon being too eager, it has happened before. It is not the first time they 'sell' a book that is not out or even a publication date set yet.

What is interesting is that "Windjäger" the german translation is showing as preorderable at both amazon.com and amazon.de, release date set as september 14th 2015. €12.90 and $9.59 as price for Kindle version. The english version does not show up on amazon.com (that I could find), but does show up on amazon.de with the same price of €12.90 preorderable, but with a later release date of october 15th. Very strange that the english version comes out after (later) than the translation, unless the dates are different in the US for the english version.

If it is coming out in german before english and buyable from amazon.com, then I will just have to get the german version earlier.

It's sadly not unusual that a title gets completely changed for the German translation.

Right. Example 2nd book in Vampire Chronicles by Anne Rice:
english: The Vampire Lestat
german: Der Fürst der Finsternis (translates into The Prince of Darkness)

Why? Who knows, the original title could translate just fine to german (Der Vampir Lestat). Publisher stunt to increase sales in Germany since there is no french name in the title?

I'm not gonna lie, I love the "Windjager" title over "The Aeronaut's Windlass".

Well, that has happened before. The dutch version of Lens Larque from Jack Vance was published before the english version. The story behind it was that Jack Vance was very popular in the Netherlands and he wanted to honor his dutch fans. Or so I was told...
