Simply, England would not have been pushing so hard and leaving themselves so open at the back if it were 2:2 and not 2:1.

I don't know about that one. I think they were weak in defence from the start, the bad decision and the resulting pace may have opened up a flaw that was already there. Damn it's hard to be an England supporter, a hell of a lot of expectation, too little glory and always, always the disappointment.

England's defensive was all over the place but where it was supposed to be. The two wingers never came back enough.

Definitely a good game.

Congratulations to Germany!

Congratulations to Germany. The final score does, I think, flatter them, but overall they certainly deserved to win.

I hope this is a "wake-up" call for the England national team. They were in what was beyond a doubt the easiest group in the competition, drawn against three sides (Algeria, Slovenia, and the USA) who could be considered by nobody (and I mean no disrespect in saying this) to be in the top flight of world football. They have poor draws against Algeria and the USA, and scrape a win against Solvenia. Unsurprisingly, the first world-class team that they come up against gives them a lesson in how the game should be played.

It's the worst World Cup performance I've seen from England in a long, long time.

Well done Germany - they were much the better team .
England didn't play well at any stage of the tournament, and don't even have the consolation of a spirited performance to look back on.

I wonder if this will kill England's bid for the 2018 World Cup - FIFA will probably want to host it in a country which has players who can pass the ball.

Congratulations Deutschland!

I'm extremely embarrassed to say that I missed the game because of a very stupid misunderstanding about the time (damn time zones)

You can watch reruns everywhere on the web and this game is worth another peek. If only just to see what is to be done with the England defense.

Yes I'm watching them now. Amazing precision football from Germany, it seems, and the English defense is... where is it? A real shame about the missed goal though.

Not only were the referee and the linesman, (and possibly Wayne Rooney), playing for Germany, so was the guy who painted the lines!

It was good to see the linesman in the Argentina v Mexico game try to match the stupidity of the officials in the England v Germany game. Perhaps they'd had a bet?

Yeah, it was a lucky day for the german team. Help by almost all concerned parties and a good performance by the team. Next match will be a classic again: Argentina (and their "god's hand" alias Diego Maradona) is waiting...
