Death Notice
by John Luciew http://www.amazon.com/Death-Notice-e...5823041&sr=1-3 5 out of 5 stars, based on 1 review $0.99 Product Description Reporter Lenny Holcomb speaks for the dead. He tells their final stories. He writes their obituaries. After decades on the obit desk, Lenny has learned to uncover something else – the dying secrets of the deceased. This sends him back into the streets with a shrewd mind and a recharged sense of purpose. When a string of deaths rocks the Pennsylvania capital and roils the political fortunes of governor and would-be presidential candidate Lowell Winters, the secrets Lenny learns transform him into an unlikely investigative reporter. But Lenny is on a collision course with the newspaper’s ace reporter and he’s headed for a high-stakes showdown with Pennsylvania’s ambitious governor, who just may have played a role in the death of his pretty press secretary. Yet the true source of power – and danger – battling against Lenny has yet to reveal himself. This mysterious, behind-the-scenes powerbroker has been pulling the strings all along and always seems to be one step ahead. He’ll stop at nothing to defeat Lenny and ensure the ultimate triumph of his own ruthless political agenda. Can Lenny put together the murderous truth in time? Or will the last obituary he pens be his own? Author John Luciew plumbs the depths of power, politics and the press in this updated and expanded author's version of the first Lenny Holcomb novel, published under its original title. The result is a gripping, nail-biting race for the truth. After all, some stories just won’t stay buried in the back pages... %%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%% This author also has a couple books that are $1.99 each. I've listed them (in addition to the one above) in my post in the "Deals..." forum |

Thanks for putting together this list! I recently got an ipod touch, and while I don't plan to read alot of books on it because of the small screen, I will still look for free books. Especially the Harlequin types that Sony may not offer, and I also was excited to see The Christmas Bus the other day. I will definitely be checking this thread often.

Body of Lies, A Novel
by David Ignatius http://www.amazon.com/Body-of-Lies-A...6411239&sr=1-1 $0.62 From Publishers Weekly Starred Review. Displaying his trademark expertise and writing skill, Washington Post columnist Ignatius (Agents of Innocence) has crafted one of the best post-9/11 spy thrillers yet. Subtly framing a highly elaborate plot, Ignatius tells the story of idealistic CIA agent Roger Ferris, newly stationed in Jordan after being wounded in Iraq. After a failed initiative to flush out a terrorist mastermind known as Suleiman, Ferris, who's dedicated to forestalling further al-Qaeda attacks, develops an intricate scheme modeled after a British plan used successfully against the Nazis. Ferris's plot to turn the terrorists against each other by sowing seeds of suspicion that their leaders are collaborating with the Americans puts his personal life in turmoil and threatens his professional relationship with the head of Jordanian intelligence. Few readers will anticipate the jaw-dropping conclusion, and the pairing of first-rate espionage suspense with fully developed characters should propel this onto the bestseller lists and possibly attract Hollywood interest. Sporadic,
Once again, I'd like to thank you for keeping up the good work and the updates. I was wondering if the constant work keeping track of changes was getting old yet [grin]. If you are still going strong, then I'm quite satisfied and there is no need to change. However, I wondered if you considered putting your list up on a wiki page here at mobileread? This would let some of your 'assistants' post changes directly without needing to funnel everything through you. Of course, something like this still needs someone who keeps it on target, so I suspect it'd still require quite a bit of your time. However, it'd be one way of reducing the burden on you. As I said originally, I have no complaints about how you are managing things. I'm just offering a brainstorming-style option if you ever get to the point where you want help in maintaining the master list. MLH |

Unbreakable, by Sydney Somers, is Samhain's final free book for this month. The first in The Shadow Destroyer series, this one has a content warning for both sexual and violent content. This book was also free last year; this time it's scheduled to be free from 10/26/2009 to 11/9/2009.
Book Description Five years ago the man she loved died in her arms...Or did he? Jordan McAdam leads an unusual double life. Police officer by day, vigilante by night. But Jordan isn't interested in the average criminal. She stalks Shadow Demons, creatures who prey on the innocent, creatures whom she suspects are responsible for a string of bizarre sacrificial murders. Creatures who killed her partner and lover. Gage Campbell has spent the last few years on an elite team of Shadow Destroyers, hunting down the demons who changed his life -- and his DNA. Then an assignment leads him straight back to the woman he hasn't been able to stop thinking about for five long years. The woman he had no choice but to leave behind. Is the man before her a mimic demon bent on tormenting her, or is it Gage returned from the dead? All Jordan knows is that the raging desire between them is real. Standing between them are years of secrets and hurt, and a love that just might have the power to bring them together. If the murder case they're working on doesn't separate them...permanently. This title was previously published but has been revised and expanded for Samhain Publishing. Warning, this title contains the following: adult language and graphic violence of the sword-wielding, demon-slaying kind. Also contains Spoiler:

It was wrapped in costly array with silver and gold ribbons upon it and despite your great appreciation upon receiving it, you never actually opened it. In many ways this is exactly what happens when a person receives God's free gift of salvation through faith in the Lord Jesus Christ. They have the gift. They carry it around in its fancy wrappings, glad to have it, but never explore the scriptures in order to understand all that they've actually been given inside this precious package. Pastor James Somers, Senior Pastor of Grace Baptist Church and author of many Christian novels, including "PERDITION'S GATE" and "The Realm Shift Trilogy," shreds the wrapping paper away from God's great gift and dives into the scriptures in order to explore over fourteen different benefits God gives to the sinner when they believe on the Lord Jesus for salvation. If you've ever wondered why you should want Jesus as your lord and savior or wanted to understand all that you were given when you got saved, then "What's So Great About Salvation?" provides concise answers that are easy to understand. So, what are you waiting for? Open up God's greatest gift and see what He's done for you! |
