I think mentioned this here recently, but, I sometimes saw that when the Aura ONE was my primary ereader. It seemed to be touches that went through the cover in the time between closing it and the device actually going to sleep. What happened depended on exactly where and how I was holding the device, but, it was basically what would have happened when holding the device in the same way if the cover had been open.

After having the Sage (which is going back) and the Forma I agree about 8inch e-readers, that extra inch is worth it, however I am also happy to use 7inch readers round the house and 6inch readers for my handbag.

I got my Forma for £200. And imo that’s the price it should have been from the start, and the price the Sage should have been. Both are too expensive at Kobos prices. I’ve bought the new Libra 2 as that is a far more realistic price, considering Kobo are more expensive than Amazon anyway.

The covers are also a ridiculous price. I managed to get the Red Libra 2 case for £25, and if a third party case had been available I would have got that instead.

The reason seems rather simple: people similar to you value a larger display.

And also, a 6" paperwhite compared to the 8" Sage/Forma is 33% larger diagonally and 78% larger by area as a 4x3 display. The Sage is also 18% larger diagonally and 38% larger by area as a 4x3 display than the 6.8" PW5

It's about the monopoly pricing of e-ink creating an uncompetitive 8 inch ereader marketplace. The margins must be industry-leading among all types of panel manufacturers. Relative to similar types of electronics consumers, we are getting less value for our money.

The Paperwhite being less than half of a Sage/Forma/Oasis makes no sense, proportionately.

As with everything, they charge what the customers are willing to pay. Obviously enough people are willing to cough up the money for the Sage/Forma/Oasis. So why should they lower the price?

I agree about high prices (even if it is worth it to me), and also that 8" is my favorite reader format. I love 8" over 7" devices!

The amazing thing Kobo did with the Forma was to keep it the same weight as smaller readers. I feel that was a revolutionary design feature for larger readers that they've given up on. They should have designed the Libra 2 as a scaled down Forma that would be as light as the Clara.

I prefer the appearance of text on the recessed screen of the Libra 2 and most other Kobo readers to the flush screen models. It's a minor preference, although I've come to wonder if there is such a thing as a minor preference when it comes to the screens of these devices.

Imagine you're a modern consumer electronics company selling tablets and you can still sell your 3 year old model for basically the same amount as the new model. It's not great for us consumers.

Stupidly I bought a Kobo Sage after promising myself I would never buy a Kobo again until someone on here ensured me that their build and overall quality has improved.

Lo an behold, I get a device with a screen that has a patch that is significantly brighter near the edge of the device, making for some truly distracting reading. Not going anywhere near the old exchange process with this one - I am sending it straight back for a refund.

I don’t know why I expected anything different. Sticking to my kindle oasis 3.

It's regrettable that you had such a poor experience.

My Sage has a somewhat brighter strip near the edge with buttons, but frankly I barely notice it anymore, unless I make an effort to do so. The Libra 2 has a more even light, however. On a par with the Oasis, I'd say.

I far prefer both the new Kobos to my Oasis 3, which I loved before. The contrast is so much sharper that the text on the Oasis seems fuzzy in comparison. And the build quality of my devices is fine.

Of course to each their own, as always.

Seems most users are happy with the quality of the Sage, but of course every vendor can have Monday samples.

My main concern, and reason for not aquaring the Sage is the heavy increase in weight compared to other e-book readers, including previous Kobos.

In general, people as a whole, human nature being what it is, tend to get what they anticipate getting. One who enters thinking it's great so it will be great again usually finds great, even when there really isn't greatness. One who enters thinking it's crap so it will be crap again usually finds crap, even when there isn't crappy. There are exceptions, but in general that is the norm.

I actually have another order coming in from Kobo with another Sage in it. Is it worth opening it up to check if it has a uniformly lit screen? Or do all Sage’s have that bright strip down the side?

Kobo have a very generous returns policy here so I wouldn’t mind checking out the new device…

I’ll be honest, the strip isn’t as distracting as I initially made it out to be, I may have been a little incendiary with that post and I have since ‘gotten used to it’… but that doesn’t mean I’m not disappointed!

Anyone here have a Sage with a perfect screen? I will say the text is razor sharp on my Sage vs my Oasis 3 and also the extra inch is great.
