Good on you, some other people do.

Your comment is quite dumb.

The “consequences” should be limited to not having the store or whispersync service available, not books being deleted from the device. The bug should be fixed regardless of whether it is a wi-fi problem or not. Do not blame the users for their dumb software.

You might as well argue that Amazon should remove the toggle for wi-fi in the next update or tell us that our device must stay connected at all times just so we don't run into their incompetent software (sorry, "expected consequences"), at least in that last case we could all move on from Kindle, which is what people on r/kindle or r/ereader are doing right now.

That is not a solution. If you have a new enough Kindle, you'll end up getting the new firmware that has a nice new feature called Battery Drain.

Keeping the WiFi on will use up the battery more for no reason when calibre is the solution.

Please don't say it's a user error. It's not. It's an Amazon error.

When I registered it, those books stayed on the Kindle and stayed available to me (because the Kindle DRM uses the device serial number).

I enjoyed the Sunday Times, but I don't think it and the other books should have remained available when I changed the registration.
You said it yourself. The DRM is tied to the serial number. So yes, those eBooks are allowed to be there when you registered.

The Sunday Times is embarrassing if it's the Sunday Times from the UK. But if it's the Sunday Times from the US, that's OK.

The solution is to keep WiFi off and do not turn it on. Also you don't want WiFi on in case you get the rubbish firmware that locks your Kindle and eats the battery.

No, it isn't. The author owns the content, not Amazon. Amazon doesn't produce content, it only sells the content produced by others.

Every publisher produces copyrighted content by transforming another copyrighted content under a license from the author or another copyright holder.

I'm pretty sure most of those sideloaded books were not published by Amazon, only sold by them. The bookstore doesn't own the copyright of the books it sells.

What is the logic behind stating that using EBOK as the book type make it copyrighted content produced by Amazon? And even stranger claiming that that was a malicious act. The books I used for testing were PD so no copyright.

Are you claiming that despite Amazon licensing/selling many books produced by other publishers that since those books show an EBOK booktype that they are Amazon produced content to which Amazon now owns the copyright?

Amazon did state that they would not remove books from Kindles again back when they removed 1984.

The copyright resides with the copyright owner. Allowing Amazon to publish your copyrighted material does not grant Amazon a copyright.

I may have lost track of what the bug is: does the deletion occur if you leave wi-fi on continuously?
If not, then Amazon is NOT intentionally removing the books because of the change in type--if it were intentional it would not be limited to devices that return to wi-fi after a long time off.

I haven't seen a report that where if you leave WiFI on continuously, books were deleted. It seems to be tied to having WiFi off for a long period, having ebooks on your Kindle that have an ASIN that matches an existing Amazon book and not having that matching book as a purchase/KU loan/whatever in your account.

My suspicion is that it is intentional to remove books from a device that have been removed from the account while WiFi was off but has the side effect of removing sideloaded content that was never in the account.
