Dead Angler, the first in Victoria Houston's Loon Lake Mysteries, is either on sale or has had a price reduction. It's now $0.75 at Amazon (and $0.99 at Kobo) US stores. I haven't checked other countries. This story was originally published by Berkley. The current ebook is published by Tyrus Books (F+W Media), but the link at Tyrus redirects to Adams Media.

I don't know if this is a limited time sale or a permanent reduction, but I've never seen a price of 75 cents at Amazon.

Anyway, I really liked this book. It reads like a "cozy," but it's a bit too gritty to fit neatly in that genre. I've since read, and enjoyed, a few more in the series. It has about 4 stars at Goodreads.

Not My Blood is the tenth in the excellent (IMO) Joe Sandilands series by Barbara Cleverly. It has recently dropped to $1.99 at Kindle US.
link: http://www.amazon.com/Not-Blood-Sand...dp/B007DY5SX0/
Spoiler:
Quote:
Scotland Yard Detective Joe Sandilands is caught off guard one night in 1933 by a phone call from a distressed boy named Jackie Drummond, who just might be the illegitimate son Joe never knew he had. Jackie is in trouble at his Sussex boarding school, where a teacher has been murdered. When Joe gets himself assigned to the investigation, he learns the boarding school case is more complicated than it appears: A frightening number of boys, all from wealthy families, have gone missing over the school’s history, and by some coincidence none of the families have followed up on their sons' whereabouts.

While I was looking at Cleverly's books, I also noticed that two other titles in the Sandilands series are only $2.99, which is a very reasonable price for backlist titles IMO. They appear to be long-term priced at $2.99, not any special sale, but since I'm listing Not My Blood, I thought I'd mention these two also.

The Palace Tiger is the fourth in the series.

Spoiler:
Quote:
India, 1922. In this, the fourth in the acclaimed Joe Sandilands series, Scotland Yard detective Joe arrives in the princely state of Ranipur at the request of the Maharajah, an old ally of the British. The Maharajah is dying, and the succession is unclear. The death of his first son, while panther-wrestling, is suspicious, but as Joe begins to investigate a second son dies dramatically right before his eyes. With only the youngest, aged 12, now left to succeed, can Joe ensure his survival? In the glittering and luxurious setting of the court with its array of powerful, scheming characters, Joe must find his way through the maze of intrigue to trap, at last, the palace tiger.

The Bee's Kiss is the fifth in the series.
link: http://www.amazon.com/Bees-Kiss-Joe-...dp/B00OGUX5MU/
Spoiler:
Quote:
1926, and Joe Sandilands is back from India, enjoying the frantic pleasures of Jazz Age London. Yet, there is a darkness behind all that postwar gaiety. A woman has been discovered bludgeoned to death in her suite at the Ritz. A broken window and missing emerald necklace suggest that it is a burglary gone wrong. But the corpse is that of a much-respected member of the British establishment, Dame Beatrice Joliffe, one of the founders of the Wrens, and so Scotland Yard send Joe to conduct a swift enquiry. Her companion, an ex-chorus girl, falls from Waterloo Bridge at twilight.

Two of the Dame's clique of eager young Wrens commit suicide. All these deaths make Joe suspect that Beatrice has been killed by someone close to her but suddenly he finds that the case is closed and he is asked by his superiors to surrender his files. Against the background of the looming General Strike, and pressure from unseen governmental presences he struggles on, picking his way through the political panic and rebelling against authority, through to a shattering solution to the killings.

But when he is found run over in a country lane, Brandy becomes Murder Suspect Number One--with her mother coming in a very close second. . .

The list of other suspects is impressive--the victim's business seems to have been based on bilking seniors out of their possessions. And when the Borne "girls" uncover a few very unsavory Serenity secrets, they become targets for a murderer whose favorite hobby seems to be collecting victims.

Scene of the Climb is the first in the Pacific Northwest series by Kate Dyer-Seeley.

Never mind that Meg's idea of sport is climbing onto the couch without spilling her latte. So when she finds herself clawing to the top of Angel's Rest--a two-thousand-foot peak--to cover the latest challenge in a reality TV adventure show, she can't imagine feeling more terrified. Until she witnesses a body plummet off the side of the cliff. Now Meg has a murder to investigate. And if the climbing doesn't kill her, a murderer just might. . .

Scrapbook of Secrets is the first in the Cumberland Creek series by Mollie Cox Bryan.

And when the quiet idyll of their small town is shattered by a young mother's suicide, they band together to find out what went wrong. . .

Annie resurrects her reporting skills and discovers that Maggie Rae was a closet scrapbooker who left behind more than a few secrets--and perhaps a few enemies. As they sift through Maggie Rae's mysteriously discarded scrapbooks, Annie and her "crop" sisters begin to suspect that her suicide may have been murder. It seems that something sinister is lurking beneath the town's beguilingly calm façade--like a killer with unfinished business. . .

Caught Dead Handed is the first in the Witch City series by Carol J. Perry.

Lee reluctantly takes the job, but when she starts seeing real events in the obsidian ball she's using as a prop, she wonders if she might really have psychic abilities. To make things even spookier, it's starting to look like Ariel may have been an actual practicing witch--especially when O'Ryan, the cat Lee and Aunt Ibby inherited from her, exhibits some strange powers of his own. With Halloween fast approaching, Lee must focus on unmasking a killer--or her career as a psychic may be very short lived. . .

While Dana pens the Spa's blog and balances the attentions of the local police and reporter Jason Forrester, her escalating job duties now include finding clues, motives and suspects. This is a favorite series of my sister. She gave me Tug of War a few years ago for Christmas. Not too bad, but strictly chick lit - I won't be reading another. You ladies, though, might enjoy this series as much as my sister does.

The Term Sheet, a Techno Thriller from Lucas Carlson. FREE from NoiseTrade!

The Term Sheet: A Startup Thriller Novel, by Lucas Carlson is currently available free from our friends at NoiseTrade. The Kindle mobi of it at Amazon is currently $4.99.

It's available in all three of the most popular flavors: PDF, ePub, and mobi.

Author Lucas Carlson is a highly-rated author. Interestingly, he has written 3 or 4 non-fiction technology books. I'm sure that because of his technology background he can bring a greater feel of reality to a techno fiction work such as this. He also has written a couple of books on startup companies, a theme that is prominent in The Term Sheet.

The book is rated 4.4 stars, from 93 reviews, at Amazon.

While I say that it's "free," those who have downloaded before from NoiseTrade recognize that it's really a pay-if-you-want-to kind of deal. They ask for a tip, but you can download the book without leaving one.

The book description at NoiseTrade is long. But here's goes . . . .
Startup Thriller Author of the popular Uncommon Stock trilogy

__________________________________________________ ___

THE FATE OF THE COUNTRY DEPENDS ON THE DECISIONS OF ONE AMBITIOUS ENTREPRENEUR.

__________________________________________________ ___

David Alexander always dreamt of starting his own company. But in the exciting world of tech startups, where venture capital rules and billion-dollar businesses are the holy grail, things can and do collapse — in the blink of an eye...

David’s thrown into this world and his adventures spiral him into a dark hole of terrorist plots, government espionage and classified information. It’s not as elegant a universe as he had first thought.

One wrong decision could put the country in jeopardy, collapse David’s company, or even cost him his life.

__________________________________________________ ___

THE TERM SHEET is a fast-paced technothriller about entrepreneurship, startups, encryption, and the delicate balance between national security and individual privacy. Its complex characters explore thought-provoking questions about the role of technology in an ever-changing society. Step into the high-stakes game played by today’s technology innovators, who push the envelope and risk it all. Get ready, this thrilling book gives you a taste of what startups are really like.

__________________________________________________ ___

David Alexander, a young programmer in Portland, Oregon, loathed his job. Computer programming had always come naturally, but being an employee never suited him. So he tried entrepreneurship instead.

After making a series of embarrassing blunders, David finally hit on a startup idea that stuck: encrypted chat. Sure there were alternatives, but as Edward Snowden has shown us, most of them (willingly or unwillingly) have backdoors for spies and bad guys.

A new approach made David’s app one of the most secure options out there, which caught the attention of many people, including Shawn Douglas from the Secret Service.

Shawn Douglas worked with eight different presidents, preventing twenty assassination attempts, forty-three terrorist plots and two bullets. When he was promoted to a desk job overseeing and organizing travel, he picked up on a cryptic email thread that hinted at a threat to the President’s life.

In a race to unravel the conspiracy, Shawn and David both have to make some difficult decisions. Will Shawn stop the terrorists in time?

Will David be able to navigate his startup out of a crisis and keep his entrepreneurial dream alive? Or will fate deal them both a crushing hand? Read the book to find out.

Well, there's more information at NoiseTrade about the book, but perhaps that is enough to let you know whether or not you might be interested in it. Here's the link to the ebook's webpage at NoiseTrade, where you can find out more information if you need to and also download the ebook if you decide to.

Those interested in Felicity Young's Dr Dody McCleland series may want to venture to Kobo India where the latest in the series (April release), is selling for RS 186.34. (Around $2-3 or so depending on where you live)
A Donation of Murder
blurb
Spoiler:
Forensic doctor Dody McCleland is horrified when the seemingly dead body of a well-dressed woman she has just sliced with her scalpel bolts upright with a howl. Dody has heard of bodies frozen into a false death before but never come face to face with the phenomenon.

She feels a terrible debt - and a strange connection - to this woman, discovered incongruously near the notorious Anchor and Whistle public house. Yet Dody is puzzled: how did a woman of such means and intelligence come to be left for dead in the icy cold of this unsavoury district?

Meanwhile, Chief Inspector Pike has a gang of jewel thieves with a trail of murder behind them bailed up in a burning building. When one of the gang escapes, and the remainder are found assassinated at close range, it is clear the modus operandi of the chief suspect has brutally shifted.

Then Pike discovers both that the king has an interest in the gang's stolen jewels and that his superior is suspected of corruption. Threats to his career and his relationship with Dody further intensify an already delicate situation.

Join Dody and Pike as they work to find out who is behind the carnage, discover who Dody's new friend really is, and if there's any hope of them ever sharing a future together.

I've now read the whole series (to date) and thoroughly recommend them.

Quote:
If you love M. C. Beaton or Susan Wittig Albert, don’t miss the charming Birds of a Feather series from bestselling author Marty Wingate! In Empty Nest, Julia Lanchester’s life is interrupted by a murder most foul—and a killer who’s watching her like a hawk.

Manager of a tourist center in a quaint British village, Julia Lanchester finds herself with more ideas than time. Her boss is the Earl Fotheringill himself, but apart from him, she doesn’t mix well with the aristocracy. Unfortunately, toxic mold forces her from her cottage and into one of the earl’s countless spare rooms at the Hall. She tries to get a handle on her overload of work, while she finds herself arguing with dinner guests, chaffing at the sudden interest the earl’s son has in running the estate, and missing her new beau, Michael Sedgwick.

Her life goes from bad to sinister when Julia discovers poisoned sparrowhawks on the expansive estate grounds. And soon after, she finds one of the Hall’s visitors murdered—felled by the same poison. While simultaneously both spooked and angry, she still can’t keep herself from snooping, and dragging Michael along into her investigation. But will she find the culprit before her own wings are clipped?
