I did not see those options!

From past experience, they are normally only displayed if the installer thinks you already have the version that you are trying to install present on your PC.

Interesting, that is my past experience too. I definitely did not have 0.7.30 on my machine when I got those options. As I stated I just chose remove, then installed again with no problems.

Nice to know my experience was the exception. Judging from the OP I thought we were all seeing this option. The fact the OP chose repair most likely screwed up his install since 0.7.29 uses Python 2.6x and 0.7.30 uses Python 2.7.

For the record I'm running Windows XP sp3 (32 bit) with all latest security updates.

As I stated I had no problem choosing Remove then running the MSI again.
That indicates that you are installed the same version that you already have currently installed. So, either that is what you are doing... or the installer didn't properly have a new package code.

Thanks for the input. I agree that it certainly would seem that way. Since the OP talked about his experience I just removed and reinstalled. I had no trouble and this was the first time I had installed the 0.7.30 upgrade package. I guess we'll never know why it hiccuped.

Just got home from work to see that the 0.7.31 update is here. I downloaded and installed it with no problem.

I run Calibre on Ubuntu Linux.

Is there any way to set up an automatic update of Calibre when my Update Manager runs? I can use the script from the Linux download when I get the update notification in Calibre, but it seems more efficient if I don't need to wait for the notification.

Well calibre is available from the ubuntu repositories, but it is always out of date. So if you are willing to update calibre only once every six months, the Ubuntu software manager will work for you.

I got a problem when converting prc book to pdf format, the pdf book will be totally empty till the end, and only first few pages has content.

Do i miss something when configuring Calibre?

My ebook is Sony PRS 650 and installed lasted Calibre. One noticed thing is the pdf book which converted is reading as usual on PC got Adobe Acrobat Reader, with no blank page.

I don't have an answer for you, but I do have a question. Why on earth would you convert any ebook format to PDF for viewing on a ereader.

Of all the options PDF may be the worst choice of a ereader format.

Try converting the PRC to epub and see if that is any better.

Good Luck.

@dwanthny: my book is east-asia language and as you know Sony is not support unicode font for this area at the moment, so only chance for me is converting prc book to pdf file.

Hope Sony will released new firmware so I could convert direct to epub.

Regards,

Phan

Try turning off the PDF metadata writer plugin (preferences, plugins, metadata writer plugins, PDF). There have been reports that sometimes it makes things go wrong on readers.

We are far beyond my experience, so this will be my last suggestion.

Another thing you can try is converting the file to some other format such as EPUB, then converting that to PDF. This path might avoid some problems.

However, thinking about it, are you sure that the reader will display any PDF in your language? I can imagine problems even if all fonts are embedded (and they would need to be). Do you have a working example?

I understand that it is possible to embed fonts in EPUB, but I haven't ever done it. If this is indeed possible, then it would be a much better option than PDF.

I actually know the way to solve this bug which i usually use. It need to convert to rtf format then using adobe acrobat in windows to convert to pdf file.

But I would like to know if having a direct way that converting prc to pdf format without running above step.

Anyway, thank you very much for a suggestion.

Nice weekend.
