I remember doing that year-to-year listing last year but it turned out not to be very accurate when I discovered that I hadn't added such things as Humble Bundle books or audiobooks from Downpour. It's as up to date as I can get it now and even allowing for Whispersync duplicates, it may take 5 years to truly put a good dent in it.

I've managed 3 days without buying any books, but have acquired a number of freebies. I don't put freebees into my TBR unless it is part of a series or an author I have already read. So, they go into a freebies library. I read about 10 of them a year mostly because I have such a large TBR.

Keeping in mind what Issy mentioned, I'm making an effort in January to read books from every year that I have unread books. Alas, they start in 2010!

I was given a $50 B&N card by a relative who is unaware that I really only shop at my local independent book store, but I have decided to let my wife hang on to it for online ordering. We will probably end up using it for non-book offerings. We're 4 days in and I haven't even looked for anything to buy. I've read 2 books on my priority TBR and am 60% through a third. It helps that my first book was one on Zen Buddhist practices in the home. One if the major focuses was treasuring what you have and making sure you really should add a purchase to that. Just a dash of mindfulness

There are plenty of threads to talk about books you want to read, or buy. But this thread has the very real intent and result of helping those of us with a bit of a "must buy" jones to help keep that in context and under a semblance of control. So no, it isn't tongue in cheek. I try not to have "attitude" with anyone here, however.

So far this year I've bought three and read two. But two of those purchases were subscriptions, and the other was a heavily discounted book in a series by a favourite author.

What I need to avoid is the 'that looks interesting' purchase, at least until my TBR is a lot smaller. (998 at the moment.)

I don't see being light-hearted and tongue-in-cheek as being at odds with the purpose of the forum. One can be jocular in time and serious in intent.

No purchases yet this decade by me, either, but I've got $5 in exploding Kindle credit which I shall use in the next couple of weeks. Not to do so would be kooky.

Just to nitpick--the decade does not start until 2021-Jan-01. After all, there was no year 0 AD so the first decade was years 1 to 10 not 0 to 9. Much like the millenium started 2001-Jan-01. So your purchases from 2011-Jan-01 to 2020-Dec-31 are in this decade.

I'm not persuaded. I know the argument, but against that is common usage and emotional resonance. The latter two win out.
