HIRE someone, then. There has got to be someone who isn't affiliated with mr. developer-idiot in a ten mile radius of you that you can hire to come check on you daily. If I were within a ten mile radius of you, I'D do it.. unfortunately, I'm a little too far for that to be even remotely practical.

edit: I had an idea.. talk to Teresa about it. Maybe she'd be willing to come by on a daily basis instead of just on weekends.

We could set up a phone call daily, with someone. Only if that cute lil dragon with the sock puppet on her tail doesn't object, though.

No, Teresa is a very busy woman. She's a psychiatric nurse practitioner, and is on the road to see her patients long before I wake up in the morning. She also gets home really late. That's why I walk and feed her dogs (and the feral cats she takes care of and the deer that she sometimes can't get home to feed) whenever she needs me.

I guess we do sort of keep in touch in that I text message her on the days I'm taking care of her house (just to let her know that everything that needed to be done got done). Her husband is an attorney, and he's commuting to and from Oklahoma right now. So, he's not here that much.

The only other neighbors who care much about me travel a lot (on business and for fun). I look in on the grandmother there when they are out of town (she's about 85 and has a LOT of medical problems .... so I don't feel good about them going out of town without them telling me).

Having someone from MR call me might work, but then again, it might cause more trouble than it's worth. There are times that my iPhone decides to turn the ringer off (it's a little too easy to flip that switch on the side near the volume control), and then I don't even realize that anyone is calling me.

However .... I did get one wall of the Great Room painted today. It's a bit of a big room .... maybe 20x35 ... so I'm just knocking it off a bit at a time. There is one wall that is almost all windows, so I don't think I'll have to paint that. I got the piano moved just fine, and my roller and brush are all clean.

I'm making pretty good progress, all things considered.

OK, so how about you call one of us? Or more than one, if you aren't comfortable "bugging" one of us all the time. Then we'd know, if we didn't hear from you, that you needed to be checked on.

Would she have time to do a daily "r u still alive" text exchange with you? Say, if she hasn't heard from you by X:00, she texts & looks for an answer within the next 6 hours at least.

My estranged hubby and I text quite a lot, some days just to make sure the other hasn't keeled over in the middle of the night. He has heart issues too!

P.S. Yeah, my iPhone keeps switching itself into silent mode, too.

Suits me if it suits her. My husband and I text all day too - he texts me on his breaks, I text him when I get home from doing errands or on my breaks.

Actually, by "her" I meant Ricky with her friend Teresa. BUT it would be great if either you or I could chat with Ricky too. I have an unlimited texting plan, since we use it so much. Ricky?

Ok, everyone else has yelled at you enough, Ricky, so I won't. But please take someone up on the text messaging offer. Or we could follow you on twitter, if you think you'd have time to just pop in a few words every now and then, say morning and evening each day. It would make us all feel a lot better, I'm sure.

That seems like the most obvious solution to me!

Now, with regards to your house.... Do you think your case would be weakened if you move out of there before going to court? Because I really don't think that's a good place for you. Surely we could locate a suitable house in a neighborhood friendlier to animals and with local emergency medical services. (Nearly anywhere in New England should work on both counts, for example.) And I think your general health could only be improved by not having to deal with this municipality on a day-to-day basis.

Ah, that would work too, and Teresa is close enough to call someone to help if needed. I have unlimited texting also.

All things considered? That doesn't sound too brilliant. Still, I'm of the opinion your heart wouldn't dare give out on you -- the lawsuit you'd file against it is would be terrifying. I suspect it is just setting up a negotiating position for better pay and conditions. You are a good employer who will listen, aren't you?

BTW, you really ought to make sure your cats know how to perform CPR and the kiss-of-life....

Right now I'm thinking about how many departments here get things done better when they leave the management layer out...

Any one who feels the need to text me is more than welcome to do so. I'll PM you both my cell phone number and you can RU Alive? me to your heart's content.

That silencer switch should be relocated on the new iPhone when it comes out. It makes me nuts.
