So, this is off topic but interesting. I tallied up my ebook purchases for the year at Kobo and compared that to what I would've paid at Amazon.

Taking the Kobo coupons into account Amazon is 546% more expensive.

Finally got a 75% code! Promptly bought a book that turned out to be a PDF. I can't even get it on my reader, after hunting I see you have to use ADE and transfer by USB. And even once I do we all know how crappy PDF files are to read. One more instance where Kobo's asinine removal of the type of file so you know before you buy is a pain in the rear. Right now I could throttle the genius that made that decision!

I'm sure I could call Kobo and get a refund but then I lose my code.

How does it compare to how much you would have spent without the coupons?

Makes sense, I don't buy books at Kobo UNLESS I have a coupon.

I'm working on that. Quite a large list to go through. I know from a smaller sample Kobo was still around 25% cheaper.

Could be nice to know, but in the end it doesn't matter.

Kobo can ask $100 for a book, while Amazon asks $5. If Kobo has a perpetual 97% coupon available, they're still cheaper.

I actually made a mistake on one price on Amazon, so numbers are a bit different.

With coupons Amazon is 571% more expensive.
Without the coupons Kobo is still 9.8% cheaper than Amazon. (The % is actually lower than I expected. Might be due to the fact that I bought quite a few new releases that tend to be more expensive at Kobo at normal prices.)

Sometimes you just can't win. I've been waiting for Tom Holt's new book, When It's a Jar, to go on sale ever since it was announced. Bought it at Diesel early Tuesday, and was unable to download it, so they gave me a refund. Bought it at Kobo next, and there was no blue download button there - although my app could see it - so they wound up giving me store credit.

I'm almost afraid to try again; this is starting to look like an issue at the publisher's end...

I played around with some of the coupons (50Dec & 70Comic) and 3 titles I added to the cart.

Applied 70comic and it seems Kobo will automatically apply the highest discount to the most expensive title in the cart. You then need to add any other coupons you have.

Unlimited use coupons seem to be problematic. I tested 50Dec and was only able to apply it once to a cart. Additional tries resulted in a "The promo code could not be applied" message.

The cart was there for me today in Firefox. I didn't need to clear the cache it was just there. I don't think we've had it for long though. Maybe it appeared after Kobo went off the air to sort itself out.
