What’s the best way to do this for an iOS user? I suppose it’s impossible to add wordwise to an existing ebook inside the kindle app?

Alright, I'm missing something here. I converted my ebook to MOBI. I installed the wordumb plugin and KFX input inside calibre. I hit customize word wise after connecting my kindle to my PC for the first configuration and then hit save. I hit create word wise and calibre says the job is finished with no errors. I then imported the MOBI file to my Ipad Kindle app but there is no word wise visible in the ebook. Also if I just view my ebook inside calibre viewer on windows there actually is no word wise enabled. Does it need to be activated? Am I missing something indeed? Thank you.

The wordwise file is separate from the book file. I use WordDumb to generate XRAY files and do not know other details about wordwise. You need to find the name of the wordwise file and copy that as well.

Only Kindle device and Android Kindle app are supported by the plugin. And Word Wise and X-Ray files should be moved by the plugin: connect your device then click the plugin icon.

So the plugin is only useful for the 2 platforms that already support wordwise. That’s disappointing. I was hoping this would work on the iPad precisely because the kindle iOS app doesn’t support wordwise.

You can read EPUB books modified by WordDumb in other apps, for example: apple books.

That would be great! Can you explain the procedure please? I modified the epub, I uploaded it on my iCloud and then downloaded it on Apple Books. But when I open it I can’t see wordwise in it. Do I need to physically connect the iPad to the pc? Should I first transfer the book then hit the plug-in icon so that it gets modified once it’s already on the device? Thank you.

Unlike Kindle book formats, Word Wise and X-Ray data are added to the EPUB file. The plugin creates a new EPUB file in the same folder of the origin book.

• select a book, click the plugin icon or menu, wait the job to finish
• select the book then press the "O" key to open the book folder
• the newly created book file has "word_wise" or "x_ray" or both in its filename, move this file to your ipad manually

That's what I was missing

It's much easier that I thought, it creates a new ebook_word_wise.epub with the changes already applied. No need to move additional files

Now I just need to figure out how to set word wise to level 1

Thanks a lot, I managed to make it work! It generated a modified epub inside the folder and importing that did the trick.

Now I just need to figure out how to generate it with "level 1" difficulty. I have previously connected a kindle and hit the customize word wise, I'm not sure how to use this feature honestly.



I searched the thread on how to change the difficulty but I can't find nor a csv nor a json file. I found a kll.en.en.klld file which I opened with DB browser but I couldn't find how to do it.

That's for Kindle books, you need to click the "Customize EPUB Wiktionary" button. In this window, you can set the difficulty limit to 1.
