True, there's no perfect e-reader. That said, while the Kobo is more configurable, I find the default settings, operation and physical design on the Kindle to work better.

It's like Kobo is Android and Kindle is iOS. You can customize the former more but even my grandmother can operate the latter (emphasis on "my" as I'm sure there are plenty of senior citizens who will take umbrage with generalization).

Mind, I've only had the Aura HD and Glo HD. From pics, it looks like the Clara HD with its more rounded bottom corners might be more comfortable than the Aura HD/Glo HD.

Why? I am very happy with CoolReader, and I can't stand the Kobo firmware. Luckily we have choices. Horses for courses!

I'm glad you are happy with a buggy program that handles ePub very poorly. Me, I'll stick with something that actually works.

I've found if you show them Facebook, a senior citizen can suddenly figure out any OS

Before buying a Clara today I have used my wife's Glo HD and owned an old Nook 2GB reader of my own.

I feel that the Clara is a bit of a mixed bag. The build quality does not feel as good as the Glo, the back on the Glo just feels more grippy and rubbery.
But my biggest gripe is the slight blue hue to the screen and the backlight bleed.
I reckon that if I hadn't have got the Glo HD next to the Clara I might not have noticed the blue hue, the Glo has a perfectly white screen.
But I would have noticed the blb. It is worse at the bottom and travels up each side a little.
When you look between the bezel and the screen you can see a very slight gap. On the Glo the fit is perfect.
I have noted another person seeing the same issue with three of these Clara readers, resorting to using foam spacers under the cover to try and press the screen closer to the case. I tried this without success.

Has anyone else noticed any such slight gap or blb similar to what I note, or got another device to then notice the blue hue.?

There is a video review comparing this Clara to a Kindle and the blue hue was noted there. I was hoping that it would not be as noticeable.

I'm doubtful that making an exchange will resolve either of the two noted concerns, unless others have bought a Clara without either issue.?

At least it uses a std micro SD card.!

Thanks

I have noticed exactly the same, I returned it on the same day.

Using the Clara last night in bed I think that with the combination of the blb and the blue hue of the screen it will probably be returned and refunded today, rather than exchanged.

Compared to the Glo HD we got in 2015 this Clara is inferior for our needs.

Not impressed.

Sad that I missed out on WH Smith selling some unused Glo HD readers on ebay. I tried to buy one but they had stock issues.

What does 'blb' mean? Does it stand for something?

That sounds like you haven't adjust the colour of the light to reduce the blue. And that make me curious about why you haven't.

And now I know what "blb" stands for, I'm glad to know it isn't really affecting the Clara HD. As it has a front light, it can't possible be affected by this problem. Or at least that's what the pedant in me says.
