Both these problems likely stem for the same source and both should be fixed in the 0.6 release

In 0.6 if I have an MS Reader eBook that's almost an ePub, will Calibre not convert the CSS and change the HTML files?

I haven't the faintest where to post this, but 1. How is epub's support for footnotes these days, and 2. what program or format could I convert to epub from that supports footnotes?
I currently write quite a bit using word 2007, and the styles support makes for decent formatting, also because Word can also automatically move and keep aligned any footnotes I add to the text. However, I haven't the faintest how I could convert a word document to an epub document, and when I convert from an rtf file (using calibre), the footnotes seem to go *poof*. Is there a solution for that yet, or should I just be patient? ![]() |

In theory maybe something could be done with footnotes by using the "oeb-page-foot" CSS property, but I don't think any reader supports that (yet). Your best option now is to convert footnotes to endnotes, which should be easy.

I've noticed that when I ad an epub to Calibre I can edit the metadata BUT it's not saving the image when I add a cover image.
I'm on a Mac using Calibre v0.5.13 |

How do I do that?
Here's what I'm doing: 1. Add a epub document (from Feedbooks) 2. Click 'Edit Meta Information' 3. Select the 'ePUB' in the 'Available Formats' window 4. Click on the 'Browse for an image' icon 5. Select the jpg that I want to use and click ok. 6. The new cover image that I selected shows up in the bottom left of the main window. 7. I save to disk. 8. Delete the book from the main window (aka Library). 9. Add the epub that I 'Saved to disk' 10. Any edited meta info is there except the new cover. P.S. I tried clicking the 'Set the cover for the book from the selected format' from the 'Available Formats'. But that doesn't seem to work either. |

You're saving the metadata, including the cover, in calibre's files. The cover is not "sticking" to the book because that would require altering the book's files. Calibre does not alter your books without you explicitly telling it to do so - which is why you need to do the conversion.

Wow, ePub seems so great but they don't officially support book covers? Crazy!
