The Jane Lovering book sounds good.
Blossom's post reminds me that I've never been able to finish a Julia Quinn book. Maybe her earlier books are better.
Kindle users, I want to buy either a new Paperwhite or a Voyage. Which one would you get and why? I have an original Paperwhite that has gotten really slow. For the amount of reading I do, I could justify buying a new one.

I had to make that decision myself not long ago, and I went with the Paperwhite. I've heard the Voyage is great, but I just couldn't really see the price difference being worth it. I'm very happy with my Paperwhite.

I dusted off my Paperwhite last night to show someone how to turn the screen off. Afterward I looked at it and there was color blobs​ everywhere. Useless device the PW1 with that flaw. I'm glad they fixed that mess on the latest Paperwhite.

Funny thing is my PW1 did not have blobs when I first got it. They developed later.

Try Splendid. It's different from her others. I noticed Minx has more modern language like her other books but Quinn's first book was amazing.

I wasn't sure the Voyage would be worth the splurge but, for me, it absolutely is. I like that it's lighter weight and the backlight adjusts automatically. I especially love that the bezel around the screen doesn't stick out. I had all kinds of dust and cat hair that would get stuck where the bezel sticks up on my PW. Drove me nuts.

I agree with all the reasons above. I also like that the outer dimensions and weight are smaller than the PW. Easier to slide into my purse. I highly recommend the Voyage, it really is a premium device. I have a Kindle Unlimited subscription, and I read voraciously, so it gets a lot of use just for those books!

All finished setting up my PC with Windows 7. I have 7 on my laptop and another PC and I never noticed what a PITA the alphabetizing is. I have many files where I kept the original version. It used to be files would alphabetize as:

file name
file name [orig]

now the ones with the brackets after the name list before the other even though the text of the base file name is the same and there are no numbers involved.

file name [orig]
file name

I will eventually get used it. No other choice as I do not want to rename so many files. (Plus I like the end version to have the simpler name). I just wasted a lot of time trying to find a solution, but no luck.

Looks like I am in the minority here but I found that Voyage wasn't worth the extra money. It may depend on how many books you have. I have 800+, many of them sideloaded. Compared to basic Kindle the battery life is horrible (less then a week if I am reading actively), if I buy from Amazon online it takes at least 10 minutes for a downloaded book to show up in the library, and the collections interface is slow and unresponsive. They fixed it up with some of the recent software updates but from my point of view the cost did not justify the quality.

I'm about two-thirds done and agree with Terisa that it feels closer to her works as JAK albeit with some period detail. I am enjoying the h/h, but there's a lot of secondary characters to keep track of. But if you like her previous mystery-lite books as either AQ or JAK I'd recommend it. Maybe try getting it from the library if you're unsure of the time setting. I haven't read a lot of books set in the 1930s but it could just as easily be a 40s or even 50s book. It's the studio system/Hollywood vibe that you will either like or not. It reads like a typical book of hers in all the good (and bad) ways. It took me a few chapters to get sucked in, but overall I'm liking it so far. Hopefully I'll be able to finish it tonight.

It does seem weird to call it an historical though. But I guess anything from WWII and before is considered historical nowadays.
