Here in the UK the pink option is still greyed out and not clickable.

Anybody else got the dark band at the very top of the screen, about 3mm wide?

Oh, I didn't realize. This is the first time I have seen pink there.

I don't trust their return process should I receive a defective unit. And the probability of receiving a bad one seems very high.

Booklover6: I completely agree with you about Kobo's hideous return policy and customer service.

(I'm not certain I agree with booklovers5 and 4, though.)

Right now I'm fearing their delivery. Got a tracking number which isn't even a valid format

To be honest the band doesn't interfere with the text as it stops just before it.

If it's on every Aura then I probably will not bother to look for a better example.

It's on mine as well. After reading on the Aura for a couple of weeks, I don't even see it any more. It's only a slightly darker band and doesn't interfere with the text even when using epubs. If you use kepubs, it would be even further outside your reading area. I am very happy with my Aura, especially nice to have my library on the device again after my 9 month stay in Kindle land. I'll be even happier when the slim eBay cases are available (2 weeks hopefully) as I'm not taking the Aura out of the house at the moment.

I've encountered black borders on the screens of other e-readers and they have yet to create a problem for me.

Pinpricks, frequent flashes and white or reflective hardware (the silver PRS-350) are far more distracting to me than a black line at the top of an e-ink screen. I can live with that; twinkling stars in the middle of the page are another matter.

Part of the reason for the gap can be due to widows and orphans. I always set them to zero so the page end is consistent.

Putting a Reader in a pocket is a Reader waiting to get damaged. There are a lot of cases of people putting a Reader into a pocket and said Reader ending up broken. Don't put a Reader in your pocket if you want to keep using it.

Well, i jumped and bought an Aura. Staff in Smiths seemed slightly under prepared for someone purchasing a Kobo even though the had one on display. (tucked away behind a shelf) still they had some stock so its all good.

sooo close. went trough setup the device seems quite snappy, nothing untoward that i could notice visa vis construction problems. then i turned on the light.

bam, 1 pinhole shining up at me like the north star from the middle left. The demo model in store seemed ok as far as i could tell so there are probably decent ones out there. If my only issue with it is that 1 pinhole i will probably keep it save the swapping merry-go-round.

Haven't tested it thoroughly yet, will do today. I'm pretty happy with it bar the fault but can any other aura owners tell me what % brightness they normally use generally at night in a dark room, just curious as the pinhole disappears at about 30% brightness. I will test later obviously but just wondering.

Spoke to soon, the single pinhole has now been joined by 3 more feint ones. No other faults with it really the dark band at the top doesn't bother me. Everything else seemed ok.

I did though come across the highlighting bug reported on the kobo bug thread.

Will be returning tomorrow. ugh. Just enough time for me to trial another one before the paperwhite gets shipped. If the new aura is a dud amazon get a chance.
