It does indeed include 2 versions of the book, 1 steamy, 1 'light'. The book is actually only around 160-ish pages.

Overall, now that I'm done, I stand by my recommendation, would give it a solid 4, maybe even 4.5 and I will be buying the 2nd book, JMO of course but I just was pleasantly surprised at the originality and story-telling.

Which version did you read? The clean or the fun one?

I thought it was kind of cool after reading her explanation. From the author's blurb:

Dear Readers,

I found myself in a little bit of a quandary as I wrote this book. If you’ve read any of my books before, you know that my writing tends to run toward the hot end of thermometer. I write heat because it’s also what I like to read. However, when I was writing this book, my eighteen-year-old son was intrigued by the premise, and he asked if he could read some pages early on. As I wrote more and more, he asked for more pages, and finally I got to the point where he could no longer feel comfortable reading it. He asked me for a version “just for him.” He’s not a prude by any means, but he was more comfortable with a “sexy-lite” version of the book. My mother is also someone who skips the sex scenes, and she was intrigued when I told her about this special version.

Since it was already written, I have included both versions in this compilation. The first version is a hot read, not meant for anyone under the age of eighteen and not meant for those who don’t enjoy explicit sex scenes.

The second version is my son’s version. By no means is it meant for anyone under the age of eighteen, since it has adult content, adult language, and adult situations. But it’s sexy-lite.

I hope you like your choice of story and appreciate that the choice of which one to read is yours!

I'm maybe misunderstanding, why would a version with less sex scenes gross you out?

ETA: I think what the author was saying that her son enjoyed the story without graphic sex, so she created that version for him.

Not not the story but the idea of the son reading his mother's romance story. It's just icky! I mean if my mother wrote romance I wouldn't want to know what goes on in her head. It's just eeeewww. That's what grossed me out.

Ah, I understood now! I agree, but 'kids' these days seem much more comfortable with their sexuality and talking about it as well. But I get what you're saying about the son/mother aspect too.
Anyways, it really is a good story!

AuntyKatKat, I know, right? I'm over budget this week, after 2 weeks of being under so I guess I'm ok with that. But I'm sure with the Kobo contest I will be next week too.

Maybe now is the time to admit that I've never tried the audiobook thing, and by the sounds of it that's a good thing! Lord knows my budget is already stretched pretty thin!
As for being out on the street, if I keep it up I'll be right there with you! But first we'll need to invest in one of those fire-powered battery chargers for our ereaders!

I'll be a curmudgeon here and admit I don't like the idea of two versions of the same story. If I knew this before I wouldn't have bought the book. I hate the idea of books that let you choose endings or when authors revise/update their older books. My mind can't deal with such shenanigans. Good or bad, hot or not, I want one story, one version, darn it!

You're not a curmudgeon, we all like different things and have our own opinions! I think at times you and I have very similar tastes and I really think you will like the story itself though... I'm guessing the first 'steamy' version if I know you at all.? And maybe you'll enjoy the story enough to forget about the shenanigans...

But I agree overall, I don't do 'alternate endings' or 'shenanigans' either

I resent when authors revise/update books because it's like they're saying the original work wasn't enough and I'm a fool for liking it.

I'm of two minds on the two versions of the story. On the one hand I am with Loosheesh in that I want ONE version of a story. On the other hand I am glad the author at least released both versions together and isn't charging for both of them.

I don't mind if an author adds deleted scenes and explains why they were left out. Or cleans up grammar issues or small issues. But if they update the time period to make it more current and/or add modern technology, they've basically rewritten the story. That's what I do not like.

As an extreme, an author once wrote a romance novella with a hero/heroine and later self-published a revised edition as a ménage story. Just no!

Seems to me it would be smarter to just include a note ("Dear Reader" kind of thing?) and make it a kind of fun thing. "Do you remember what it was like when we didn't all have cell phones and you had to find a pay phone that was still working?" I mean, update it by putting a cell phone in her hand, then you have to explain why she didn't call someone when her car broke down, or whatever. Where do you stop?

And...really?? MF to MFM (or MMF)? It's definitely a different story when you add new lovers! Yikes.

And OT...I'm happy to call myself a curmudgeon. I like to think of it as a sign that I don't spend all my time worrying about what other people will think, so I just say what I'm thinking!
