The last of the Autumn leaves...
Vendors put up platforms in the hillsides and sell tea and cakes to folks who want to sit and enjoy the fall colors. Much of the leaves are down now, but there's still some color to be seen, and beautiful days to enjoy it with a cup of green tea and sweet mochi. ![]() Stitchawl |

Late night cappuccino.
Stitchawl, that is a beautiful spot and how relaxing to sit out with a cuppa and enjoy the view. What is sweet mochi? I tried to look it up, but it has many pictures and and types showing. Is it like saying "chocolate" and there are many of that? |

My meaning was 'Sweet' vs 'Savory.' There actually are dozens of different types of sweet mochi. In this case it was Mochi (gummy rice 'product' with the texture of soft taffy )flavored with sugar and green tea wrapped around sweet red bean paste, and mochi wrapped around bean paste and a strawberry. I love these! ![]() ![]() Savory mochi is usually served hot as a breakfast food with a topping of soy sauce or miso, and mochi is also included in 'stews' and soups. Neither of those particularly float my boat. It's sort of like eating a Dacron pillow with flavor on top. Stitchawl Last edited by Stitchawl; 12-05-2010 at 05:42 AM. |

No, not for me either for straight eating right out of the package. Chocolate rules! But it can replace chocolate cake very nicely. In fact, I've grown to prefer it when drinking tea (black or green) over any chocolate desert. Chocolate overpowers the flavors of tea. While chocolate is always good with almost anything (other than garlic) mochi is a much more subtle sweet. Not subtle in its sweetness, but subtle in its flavor. I can sit down and eat an entire family-size HersheyBar, I can only eat 2 mochi, or at the most 3. And now, on my second mug of tea. This time the East India Company Royal Breakfast! But not a sweet mochi in the house! Nor any chocolate! Stitchawl |
