I made my first purchase of the year. A wish list item went on sale for $2.99 (prev $9.99). Now I hope to read it soon, otherwise, it's a retrogression.

So far I'm managing to resist an interesting looking book by a new writer (that's on special offer). But I have so many wonderful books I want to read already, I must keep on resisting!

And I must remember that it's very likely to go on special offer again in the next few years, so if I miss the offer this time around, I can get it another time, if reviews continue to look good.

I'm safe until the new Kobo comes out. Then all bets are off.

And there will be other books equally as good, too. None of us has ever suffered from a dearth of things to read!

After stumbling out of the gate at the start of the year, I've found my temporarily lost resolve and should finish the month in the minus column (in terms of +/- on the TBR). I'm currently at zero, if I count the books I'm reading and will finish in a timely fashion. I have had to resist temptation a couple of times, but nothing major.

I've resisted so well, I can no longer remember what the book was, or who the author was. Clearly I was right to resist.

And so far this year, I've read nine books, but I've only bought seven! Add in that two of the books bought didn't go on my TBR, and that I've discarded one book from my TBR, and I'm at ten removed and only five added, a ratio of 2:1!

I don't think I've done so well in January since I started keeping records.

Now I just need to keep this up for the rest of the year...

Ain't it the truth!

Fantastic. Well begun is half done, as they say.

As for the first bit I quoted, it occurs to me that it's an argument for not putting books on your wishlist as it just keeps them active. Not saying that you shouldn't have a wishlist at all, but that one should think twice about adding a book and (a big one for me) purge it occasionally.

I'm still in the red from the 1st of January. Since I like to be able to balance the accounts every individual month, I think I'm going to have to forgo at least one of the two books I still have my eye on. One is my monthly KOLL loan, which I feel I have to use to get the best value from my Prime membership, and the other is a monthly deal, so they both have a hard deadline.

This is also assuming that nothing else comes up. Maybe I should dig out a novella or two from my TBR, just in case.

I've knocked 4 books out this year. Only 2 were on my TBR though as the other two were library reads for the NLBC club. By this time last January, I'd read NINE books. The reading time is the only thing I miss about being unemployed. I am concerned, however, that the book club might actually hinder my TBR goals this year, if I continue to participate at this rate. I just don't have the time I did last year.

One new book has come into the house - the second volume of the master editions of 20th Century Boys. I will most definitely read that, so I am not fussed that my wife pre-orders those.

I've just read 3/4 of 2 books while waiting for the full edition. (Voices of the Fall, John Ringo & Gary Poole (eds), Hoka, Hoka, Hoka, Poul Anderson & Gordon R. Dickson, both from Baen's March bundle). I am somewhat curious as to how others would count those in a TBR pile.

I'd leave them in the TBR pile if I was planning to finish them. Removing them would mean that I'd be less likely to finish them.

I agree with Ekbell on that one David.

My choice to cancel my Audible account until November is already paying off. I would have bought several, currently unneeded audiobooks, during the Rewind Sale. Considering how many audios I already bought that showed up in the Rewind Sale, that highlights a problem I know I have. I have to learn how to resist sales as they clearly are my downfall.

I am frustrated at my ebook spending. At least I am being cheap getting the $1.99 and 2,99$ deals on Amazon but it adds up. Seems like I buy books almost daily now. I vowed to not visit Amazon.com or Kobo for two weeks. It will be hard but I am going to try to not feed my addiction for two weeks. I got suckered in on the spend $20 get a $5 ebok credit

Sounds like maybe an accountability buddy would be good? Like, let someone change your password for a few weeks to force you not to buy?
