Really interesting question.

The only thing that springs to mind is whether "busses" is an allowable plural of "bus"? That would fit the rule described, but it is probably wrong.

I'll keep thinking, but I'll be interested to see the final answer.

Good job, Bilbo. Although it is not the one of which I was thinking, it does answer the question correctly, so you're the winner.

Tomorrow I'll post my answer, which is similar in nature to Bilbo's answer.

Very clever, Bilbo and Daithi! With "busses" as an example, I think that plus/plusses would also fit here.

It's a bit iffy. While some accept busses as a plural of bus, I think the more common plural is buses.

Anyway, busses is already the plural of buss (kiss).

That reminds me of the usage of focus to focusses, which is changing to a common usage spelling as focuses.

The one that I was thinking of was "Quiz" = "Quizzes". So it's pretty close to "busses" and "plusses". I guess they all look a little strange with just an "es" on the end.
