Ea, thanks for the info. As a proud owner of fine silver (at least a silver ebook reader ) please tell me--does silver distract you a little or does it disappear as most things do when you're focused on reading? Also, does the bright silver finish make the almost pale greenish, grey screen background seem darker by contrast? Matters of personal taste to a certain extent, but it's good to hear other viewpoints.

I find the silver finish of the Sony Reader 505 disappear completely when I read - more so than with the other ebook readers I've owned. It feels much less distracting than the black bezel I've experienced with a Cybook and Hanlin V3. The e-ink screen is ever-so-slightly tiny bit more grey, but overall my experience is that the silver colour of the device blends very well with the screen - and reflects less light than the screen itself.

I have been looking at photos of the new Sony 600 - and while I love that red, I would probably still prefer a silver device simply because it is the least obtrusive colour IMHO.

That's interesting that you find the silver is the least obtrusive color. I went for the blue instead of the silver because I find the silver more distracting. It's something I noticed when I moved from my silver finished iPaq to a dark blue Palm TX.

Just proves everyone's different.

I really like the matte black finish of my Sony 700 but don't like the reflective silver/chrome-like trim around the edge of the reader. Even though the metal has a brushed finish, it still reflects light back at me. I like the look of the silver but will probably stick with black if I decide to buy the 600.

Well then, the choice is clear.

Just kidding. Actually this is a near perfect spectrum of feedback. I use the pros and cons in a simple decision matrix and rank them according to what's most important to me. Color is a personal aesthetic choice, but there are practical factors to consider as well.

The final phase will be going to Sony, Borders or wherever the best display is and playing with their 600's until I'm on a first name basis with every sales and security person in the store.

Of course the choice would be easy for me if Sony hadn't dropped blue from the lineup.

Back buttons can easily be felt and with use can become natural. Even with buttons on top you don't uses your eyes to turn pages, they're kept on the reading.

Some other solution could be as easy as an external wired or wifi button pad, no compromission on grip.

Good idea, I would like a tilt sensor for page turns

And a English English dictionary

Any idea if Cyrillic is supported on these (apart from PDF or embedded fonts etc.)?

Most likely the fonts will be the same, i.e. Western characters only.

That video makes use of 2 LCD displays.
I don't like the division in between the screens.
If there's ever going to be a dual display, I'd prefer it to have no (or almost no) border or frame around the screen.

Since, that was a prototype they have room for improvement. If they put together two Sony 700's, they could minimize the margins and make it very "book" like. It would be great for a college student or any student for that matter.
