Thanks @JSWolf Found it.
It's been a couple of years since I used the app last. It forced me to update otherwise many of my purchases couldn't be downloaded as it required a newer version. I've not seen any mention of grabbing the downloaded ebook and dropping it into Calibre. Is this still possible to do as it seems to me that losing the download and transfer by USB is not a big deal if you can still download via the app. |

I've already downloaded most of my Amazon eBooks using my Kindle Touch. I have about 374 left to download. I plan on downloading them this weekend and that's me done.

Headache saving tip:
Like everyone, I'm scrambling... Two of my older books aren't converting correctly. They're not even on Amazon's active site anymore. I'm using deDRM and an old device. I finally ran the Calibre Conversion tool using the Debug feature (I suggest directing output to path/book_name_device_type). By doing this I was able to at least verify that deDRM is working by checking that book_name_device_type/input/debug-raw.html shows the book text. This might allow you to move on to your next books instead of getting bogged down here. Basically, the books aren't being re-assembled properly. But I'm leaving them for another day. It shouldn't be long before someone documents a way to download Amazon ebooks via "Kindle Cloud Reader" and your web browser. Using the network tab of the browser's build-in "Developer Console", maybe using intermediate HAR files or other data capture mechanisms. In much the same way as you can still get MP3 versions of library audiobooks (that Libby shut down after they canned Overdrive).
I predict this will be the new ebook acquisition method that replaces using Download And Transfer, outdated Kindle devices, Kindle For PC, Android hacks, and the other methods that are (were) common at one time. Just my prediction of where things might go from here. We'll see if I'm right as time rolls on... |

Amazon closed that loophole by changing KCR so that it now downloads images of pages instead of text as you read. Basically a series of screenshots. Turning that into something useful would be essentially the same as turning a scan of a paper book into an e-book. I would consider that a last resort. |

I probably should have mentioned that the previous version also spat the dummy when it came across a magazine ebook, getting stuck on the resulting error dialog, so the rest of the ebooks on that page were skipped. That may not have occurred if I had a suitable Kindle device for magazines. I only have Paperwhite and Kindle Keyboard devices. When I say suitable, I mean Amazon recognized, as I use my 10" Samsung Tablet for magazines and comics etc. The updated script is working well, though I needed to increase the time before it switched to the next download. Previous script it was 14000, the update had it reduced to 5000. Last edited by Timboli; 02-21-2025 at 09:46 PM. Reason: Update |
