I do copy/paste to a text file using Notepad but nearly always use my browser once I noticed that typing say 'edit' in the URL/ Address field brings up a selection of all URLs I have ever used that contain 'edit'
I select one https://www.amazon.co.uk/s/?url=sear...+river+editors and then modify as required https://www.amazon.co.uk/s/?url=sear...publisher=Xist https://www.amazon.co.uk/s/?url=sear...itle=microwave Last edited by Little.Egret; 08-15-2016 at 08:54 AM. |

Ten Hut!
WarGameVault's "Deal of the Day" is A Civilian's Guide to the U.S. Military. The blurb: A comprehensive reference to the customs, language and structure of the Armed Forces Attention! Learn more about your military now! Does a corporal have to salute a lieutenant or is it the other way around? What are forward-deployed units? Is an "armored cow" a type of tank or something soldiers eat? Are Polaris missiles dropped from the air or launched from a submarine? If someone calls you a "Cat 4" should you be honored or offended? Do you feel lost when it comes to all things military? Sure, you hear things on the news and maybe you know someone who is in the military, but you probably have a hard time fully grasping the acronyms, equipment, and protocol they discuss. That's where A Civilian's Guide to the U.S. Military can help. Author Barbara Schading decodes all things military for you. She discusses each branch--Army, Navy, Marines, Air Force, and the Coast Guard--in simple terms you can understand. You'll get the background information, an easy-to-read chart showing rank and insignia, and an explanation of the organization of each branch. In addition, the book has extensive glossaries that cover terms, acronyms, slang, and equipment. You'll find an entire chapter that covers special operations forces like the Green Berets, Force Recons, Army Rangers, and more. You'll learn about their specific training, missions, and history. The book also covers other important aspects of the military like: flag and saluting etiquette military funerals the Tombs of the Unknown the American Legion, USO, Veterans of Foreign Wars, and other groups military law military academies medals and decorations official military music an explanation of the Geneva Convention and a list of resources to help you find more information So the next time you read the paper or talk with a new recruit, you don't have to feel lost. Become a knowledgeable civilian with the help of A Civilian's Guide to the U.S. Military. The list price is $16.99. The sale price is $6.99. The deal price is only $3.49. It is available at Amazon for $9.99 in the Kindle edition. It is rated 4.3 stars (32) at Amazon. This is an ebook, but the only information that I could find out about the format is that it is in "original electronic format." They say about that that "These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality." It is a deal of the day; however, I'm just now finding out about it and there are a little less than 11 1/2 hours left for the deal at this moment. http://www.wargamevault.com/product/...he-US-Military. |

Someone, in a post above, posted all of the freebies by a company which publishes under the name "Hourly History."
Turns out that they post a "Free-Book Friday" deal every, well, Friday. Today's is Thomas Jefferson: A Life From Beginning to End. It's 50 pages long and is so new that there are no reviews at Amazon yet; however, GoodReads raters give it an average of 4.50 from 4 ratings. Now, this free book on Fridays promotion is so new to me that I don't know if the free deal lasts only through Friday, or if Hourly History just adds the title to the other freebies that they have at the present time. How fitting that this bio on Jefferson is the first of the Hourly History Friday freebies to be posted (to my knowledge). Jefferson was an avid bibliophile. In fact, when the mean ole British burned down the Library of Congress in 1814, Jefferson sold more than 6,000 (an enormous library of that day for someone to personally own) to U.S. of his own personal books to help get a new Library of Congress started. Anyway, here is the direct link to get the free book. |

Gandhi & Churchill: The Epic Rivalry that Destroyed an Empire and Forged Our Age
by Arthur Herman is $1.99 at Kobo: https://store.kobobooks.com/en-us/eb...ndhi-churchill Amazon: https://www.amazon.com/Gandhi-Church...ill#nav-subnav Below is the blurb: In this fascinating and meticulously researched book, bestselling historian Arthur Herman sheds new light on two of the most universally recognizable icons of the twentieth century, and reveals how their forty-year rivalry sealed the fate of India and the British Empire. They were born worlds apart: Winston Churchill to Britain’s most glamorous aristocratic family, Mohandas Gandhi to a pious middle-class household in a provincial town in India. Yet Arthur Herman reveals how their lives and careers became intertwined as the twentieth century unfolded. Both men would go on to lead their nations through harrowing trials and two world wars—and become locked in a fierce contest of wills that would decide the fate of countries, continents, and ultimately an empire. Gandhi & Churchill reveals how both men were more alike than different, and yet became bitter enemies over the future of India, a land of 250 million people with 147 languages and dialects and 15 distinct religions—the jewel in the crown of Britain’s overseas empire for 200 years. Over the course of a long career, Churchill would do whatever was necessary to ensure that India remain British—including a fateful redrawing of the entire map of the Middle East and even risking his alliance with the United States during World War Two. Mohandas Gandhi, by contrast, would dedicate his life to India’s liberation, defy death and imprisonment, and create an entirely new kind of political movement: satyagraha, or civil disobedience. His campaigns of nonviolence in defiance of Churchill and the British, including his famous Salt March, would become the blueprint not only for the independence of India but for the civil rights movement in the U.S. and struggles for freedom across the world. Now master storyteller Arthur Herman cuts through the legends and myths about these two powerful, charismatic figures and reveals their flaws as well as their strengths. The result is a sweeping epic of empire and insurrection, war and political intrigue, with a fascinating supporting cast, including General Kitchener, Rabindranath Tagore, Franklin Roosevelt, Lord Mountbatten, and Mohammed Ali Jinnah, the founder of Pakistan. It is also a brilliant narrative parable of two men whose great successes were always haunted by personal failure, and whose final moments of triumph were overshadowed by the loss of what they held most dear. |

X-link to the DRM-free thread for a new Humble Bundle:
Humble Book Bundle True Murder and Madness presented by The Lineup is chock-full of true crime backlist titles selected by the eponymous website from Open Road Media's catalogue. There's an Edgar Award-winning book on The Boston Strangler in the lot, and many other high-profile cases, as well as less well-known ones such as the unsolved case of what happened to the daughter of the late popular YA thriller writer Lois Duncan (Wikipedia), whose novels I have fond memories of. In addition to titles focusing specific individual criminals, there are also more general titles written from a coroner's viewpoint and whether or not certain infamous reputed historical murderers really did it or not. Also, I'm going to mention that I've had a look through the books in HB's Joy of Coding Bundle which I bought last week and they're pretty nifty: both informative and entertaining, and I'd cheerfully recommend them to beginners looking to get into learning programming on a more intermediate level, or more experienced persons wanting to get acquainted with some less-common languages. Another Ross King title, The Judgment of Paris: The Revolutionary Decade that Gave the World Impressionism, has dropped to $1.99 at Kindle US. I still haven't gotten to Michelangelo and the Pope's Ceiling, but definitely did read and really like Brunelleschi's Dome: How a Renaissance Genius Reinvented Architecture, so I'm going to get this one too, and now I'll have two Ross King titles in my TBR list.
