I was looking at an Audible page on one of these abridged dramatizations to see if they were worth $15 (I decided they weren't) and noticed that the audible trial offer appeared in the 'buy' button section. I've joined and quit multiple times in the last year and didn't think another free trial would work, but tried it on a whim and bam! Another two free titles and a 30 day trial.

Cool; that's happened to me before too. It never hurts to try.

I'm with you on both counts. Six "books" for $15? No added titles the second week? HB's audiobook offerings have been going down hill.

I decided to wait and see if Audible was going to do a B4G$10 in April (as in years past, though they skipped November last year) and then get the Prime 3-month trial. Fingers crossed.

$3.95 -- The Sun is God -- Adrian McKinty/ Gerald Doyle --> 7.7 hrs/ R-3.5

Note: also available as a Whispersync deal for $3.99, if you already own or borrow the Kindle ebook.

Quote:
Genre: Historical Mystery

Colonial New Guinea, 1906. A small group of mostly German nudists live an extreme back-to-nature existence on the remote island of Kabakon. Eating only coconuts and bananas, they purport to worship the sun. One of their members, Max Lutzow, has recently died, allegedly from malaria. But an autopsy on his body in the nearby capital of Herbertshöhe raises suspicions about foul play.

Retired British military police officer Will Prior is recruited to investigate the circumstances of Lutzow’s death. At first, the eccentric group seems friendly and willing to cooperate with the investigation. They all insist that Lutzow died of malaria. Despite lack of evidence for a murder, Prior is convinced the group is hiding something.

Things come to a head during a late-night feast supposedly given as a send-off for the visitors before they return to Herbertshöhe. Prior fears the intent of the “celebration” is not to fete the visitors—but to make them the latest murder victims.

$6.95 -- What is the What -- Dave Eggers/ Dion Graham --> 20.5 hrs/ R-4.1

Note: also available as a Whispersync deal for $3.99, if you already own or borrow the Kindle ebook.

Quote:
Genre: Literary Fiction > African American

In a heartrending and astonishing novel, Dave Eggers illuminates the history of the civil war in Sudan through the eyes of Valentino Achak Deng, a refugee now living in the United States. We follow his life as he’s driven from his home as a boy and walks, with thousands of orphans, to Ethiopia, where he finds safety—for a time. Valentino’s travels, truly Biblical in scope, bring him in contact with government soldiers, Janjaweed-like militias, liberation rebels, hyenas and lions, disease and starvation—and a string of unexpected romances. Ultimately, Valentino finds safety in Kenya and, just after the millennium, is finally resettled in the United States, from where this novel is narrated.

In this book, written with expansive humanity and surprising humor, we come to understand the nature of the conflicts in Sudan, the refugee experience in America, the dreams of the Dinka people, and the challenge one indomitable man faces in a world collapsing around him.

$4.99 -- Boy in the Water -- Stephen Dobyns/ George Newbern --> 14.9 hrs/ R-3.7

Quote:
Genre: Psychological Thriller

Another bucolic fall in northern New Hampshire, and the semester is under way at Bishop's Hill Academy. But the school year starts off less than tranquil. The new headmaster, Jim Hawthorne, has liberal ideas that the staff finds far from welcome. Serene on the surface, the ivy-clad, tree-lined campus gives few clues to the school's history of special privileges, petty corruptions, and hidden allegiances. But as autumn advances, the affable smiles and pretenses of virtue wear thin. And as winter closes in, students, teachers, and staff get an education in savagery and murder.

$5.95 -- Hard Work -- Roy Williams, Tim Crothers/ : Alan Winter, Rick Adamson --> 8.2 hrs/ R-4.3

Quote:
Genre: Sports Biography

Title: Hard Work: A Life On and Off the Court

Roy Williams, head coach of the University of North Carolina men’s basketball team, the Tar Heels, has the highest winning percentage in NCAA history. Over the last seven years, the 58-year-old Asheville, N.C., native—who was inducted into the Hall of Fame in 2007—has won 205 games, including 24 in the NCAA Tournament. That’s more Final Fours, more wins, and more NCAA Tournament victories than any basketball coach in the nation.

Hard Work tells the story of Roy Williams’ life that few people know, in Williams’ own distinct and colorful way—his troubled upbringing, his college years, his years of trying to make ends meet before becoming a head coach. It reveals how determination took him from an impoverished home in the mountains of North Carolina to the very pinnacle of coaching success, culminating in the 2009 NCAA National Championship (his second in five years). And it pulls back the curtain on one of college basketball’s most guarded programs as witnessed by one of the most successful, dominant coaches, at the prime of his power.

Coach Williams describes himself as the most competitive person on earth, admitting that he once got into a game of pool with Michael Jordan that nearly ended in a fistfight. In addition to providing a fresh look at Jordan, Hard Work will chronicle Williams’ connection with such basketball luminaries as Paul Pierce, Kirk Hinrich, Jacque Vaughn, Phil Ford, James Worthy, Sam Perkins, Sean May, and Rashad McCants, along with Tyler Hansbrough and Ty Lawson, all of whom Williams credits with having earned him the highest winning percentage in NCAA history.

Hard Work is an inspirational story of what can be achieve by anyone who commits to a dream.

Note: the Audible book is available at this price, if you own or borrow the Kindle ebook.

Quote:
The Drifter --> Peter Ash came home from the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan with only one souvenir: what he calls his "white static", the buzzing claustrophobia due to post-traumatic stress that has driven him to spend a year roaming in nature, sleeping under the stars. But when a friend from the marines commits suicide, Ash returns to civilization to help the man's widow with some home repairs. Under her dilapidated porch, he finds more than he bargained for: the largest, ugliest, meanest dog he's ever encountered...and a Samsonite suitcase stuffed with cash and explosives. As Ash begins to investigate this unexpected discovery, he finds himself at the center of a plot that is far larger than he could have imagined...and it may lead straight back to the world he thought he'd left for good.
Quote:
Cold Hearts (Secrets and Lies, book 2) --> If only it had been something else that brought Lissa Sherman and Mack Jackson back in touch after so many years. Something - anything - other than the murder of Mack's father. Even worse, Lissa's car had been used as the murder weapon. Thirty-five years ago, four friends went out joyriding and ended up in a terrible accident that left one dead and the others with no memory of that awful night. Now two more people, including Mack's father, have been murdered, and if the lone survivor knows why they're being targeted, she's not talking.
Quote:
The Rogue You Know (Covent Garden Cubs, book 2) --> Gideon Harrow has spent his life in London's dark underworld, and he wants out. A thief and a con, he plans one last heist to finally win his freedom. But when everything goes wrong, he finds himself at the tender mercies of one of society's most untouchable women - Lady Susanna Derring. Susanna has spent her life in London's glittering ton under the thumb of a domineering mother, and she wants out. When a wickedly charming rogue lands at her feet, she jumps at the chance to experience life before it's too late. But as she descends into London's underworld, she finds that nothing - not even Gideon - is as it seems. As excitement turns to danger, Susanna must decide what price she's willing to pay for the love of a reformed thief.
Quote:
Rebel Belle --> Harper Price, peerless Southern belle, was born ready for a Homecoming tiara. But after a strange run-in at the dance imbues her with incredible abilities, Harper's destiny takes a turn for the seriously weird. She becomes a Paladin, one of an ancient line of guardians with agility, super strength and lethal fighting instincts. Just when life can't get any more disastrously crazy, Harper finds out who she's charged to protect: David Stark, school reporter, subject of a mysterious prophecy and possibly Harper's least favorite person. But things get complicated when Harper starts falling for him - and discovers that David's own fate could very well be to destroy Earth.
Quote:
Plague of the Undead (Dead Lands, book 1) --> For 30 years, they have avoided the outbreak of walking death that has consumed America's heartland. They have secured a small compound near the ruins of Tulsa, Oklahoma. Isolated from the world, they have remained blissfully unaware of what lies outside in the region known as the Dead Lands. Until now. Led by a military vet who's seen better days, the inexperienced offspring of the original survivors form a small expedition to explore the wastelands around them. A biologist, an anthropologist, a photographer, a salvage expert - all are hoping to build a new future from the rubble. But the infected are still out there. Stalking. Feeding. Spreading like a virus. Wild animals roam the countryside, hunting prey. Small pockets of humanity hide in the shadows: some scared, some mad, all dangerous. This is the New World. If the explorers want it, they'll have to take it. Dead or alive.

More updates to PRH's TryAudiobooks.

I suspect they'll add 2-3 more by June (JIAM), as that's when they push out their advertising for the site. Still, if you're interested I wouldn't wait too long.
