Is there a way to get a Nightmode toggle on the Glo HD (no buttons) without having to install a complicated menu/launcher system?

Something like holding the power button for a certain time to toggle it or some gesture or menu in nickel, or something that a grandma can use easily?

Red face Bummer

I just bought the Kobo Glo HD after skimming this thread as a guest two days ago. After trying to install it, now do I realize that nightmode isn't available for my device!

Kobo Glo ≠ Kobo Glo HD

Guess we're in the same boat dude.

I tried to use kobolauncher... I think the OP's post is outdated. I did not find the launcher.ini. I did however find the applications.ini. Which was under .kobo/vlasovsoft. Where I set nightmode up... Yet, it doesn't work. Also when I start kobolauncher, the back(front?)light stops working unless I reboot.

So, I'm going to uninstall nightmode and kobolauncher until something comes out from a dev for Glo HD. I'll keep researching, but everything comes up for the Glo (Non-HD).

Nevermind. I found this in the thread (should really be post #1, and linked in the https://www.mobileread.com/forums/sho...d.php?t=217160 List of Tweaks thread)

https://github.com/traycold/kobo-nightmode

and it works on the Glo HD with the light slider settings.

Uh, I'm having a difficult time getting the settings right for my Glo HD.

DO you mind sharing your nightmode.ini file and telling me exactly how you've toggled nightmode?

I'm tech savvy; but, I don't know what I'm doing wrong.

Thanks

I got it. I had to close the brightness slider in order for it to work.

I don't understand how this should work. I tried it on the kobo glo where I already installed night mode which works ok with the button. Now I tried to adjust the nightmode.ini file but somehow it doesn't save the changes. I tried to put the following text in my ini but it is gone each time and does not work. DO I need to compile or something?

[brightness]
1percentPatch = yes # yes / no : Nickel set brightness to 2% even when on UI it is set to 1%
# this patch will force brightenss to 1% when:
# - it was set to 1%, then it was set to 0% (for instance: stand-by) then changed again to "what Nickel says is 2%"
# - it was set to 3%, then it was set to 1% then changed again to "what Nickel says is 2%"
timeout = 7 # time in seconds, after brightness is set (and maintained) to a given level, to toggle the action set to that level
## syntax for associating the trigger of an action when brightness is set to X%:
## X=<command/script>
## special actions:
## - toggleNightMode: toggle Nightmode on / off
## - enableNightMode: force enabling Nightmode
## - disableNightMode: force disabling Nightmode
3 = toggleNightMode

I thought I try it first on my kobo glo before trying it on my kobo glo HD but it does not seem to work. Is there a step by step manual how to let nightmode work on a kobo glo HD?

I have it working! I tried to manually adjust the .ini file but that is not needed and does not work. Simply install the nightmode by copying the koboroot.tgz file to your kobo dir. Now set the brightness slider to 11 and it will enable nightmode! Do not forget to close the brightness slider menu by pressing the X. Only after that it will go to nightmode if you have a kobo glo HD.

Just received my glo hd and tried to install the night mode patch the same way I did no my go (copying the install/koboroot.tgz to .kobo on the glo hd). But it doesn't seem to work by opening brightness setting the level to 11% and closing the window by pressing the X. Nothing happens. Did anyone else have any luck with that on the glo hd?

Strangely enough uninstalling and reinstalling the patch did the trick and the method described by sneak1979. Thanks a lot for this amazing patch which looks even better on the glo hd (should be a kobo firmware thing!)

Try this: Thread: Nightmode and reset without button
After I understood how to trigger it, switching is as easy as opening a book

Hello,

I have Kobo Aura H2O and installed the night mode and launcher on it. Also Start menu. But if Nickel is booted, i can't launch the launcher, it open only the picture (a flight picture).

With start menu i can launch the KoReader, cool reader without a problem..

How can i solve this?

The only issue I see is that if I set "refreshScreenPages = 1" in the nightmode.ini to prevent ghosting at turning the pages it will be set back to "refreshScreenPages = 0" if I check the nightmode.ini the next time I connect the H2O to my pc.
If I change e.g. the brightness level at which the night mode toggles (e.g. from 3% to 34%) the setting remains stable and works as it should.
How can you activate the night mode on Aura H2O?
