I notice that most of the Edgar Wallace books I did last year as for the Sony only. I've started re-doing them all with improved versions for both Sony and MobiPocket.

I'm also seeing some books posted by Madam Broshkina and Dr. Drib that I want in MobiPocket format, so I'm going to try and track down the sources that they used -- or figure out how to undo the Sony format -- so I can make them into MobiPocket books. |

Elsi, if you figure out how to undo one format so that it can be converted into another format, please let us know. I've tried with little success. My best successes have been to ask the original poster if they still have the BD (or other) file that they used. I'm even thinking of going back and posting the BD files of all the books that I've made so far so that other people can take those and modify them as they desire.

just for info, mobi files can be "undone" very successfully ; nick (nrapallo) has a tool called mobi2imp which will (as the name suggests) convert them to .imp, which i'm sure you don't care about, but with the GUI you can also ask it to make an .oeb file, NOT to make an .imp file, and it will also leave behind an html source file which can then easily be converted to whatever you want. and learning curve is so easy it's downhill ; with the GUI, it's all automatic, you just check a few boxes for the options you want (pretty much self-explanatory) and click "go". it takes about 15 seconds.
if you find a way to undo a sony file i would love to know about it. EDIT do i need to mention you can get mobi2imp here ? you can, of course... |

![]() The .html source is always left behind when using Mobi2IMP (in fact any "convert to" output format can be used (not just .oeb)). It also leaves behind a .opf that can easily be loaded into Mobipocket creator (or eBook Publisher). The .html will have all <mbp: pagebreak>'s removed which is not a good thing if you want to reuse the html to create another .prc! In that case, Mobi2html (part of the Mobiperl suite of programs by tompe) does a better job of converting for eventual reuse in Mobipocket creator, but it doesn't have a GUI! Since I have a list of ebooks I'm working on and plan to, I thought I'd share it. I have no personal interest in knitting, etc. but thought it would be helpful to broaden the scope of the ebooks we have. If someone who is knowledgeable thinks these titles are unlikely to be useful to anyone, please save me the trouble and let me know. Thanks.
- SPOOL KNITTING, BY MARY A. McCORMACK - EXERCISES IN KNITTING, BY CORNELIA MEE - THE LADIES' WORK-BOOK CONTAINING INSTRUCTIONS IN Knitting, Crochet, Point-Lace, &c. (no author given) - EMBROIDERY AND TAPESTRY WEAVING, BY MRS. ARCHIBALD H. CHRISTIE - HANDBOOK OF EMBROIDERY, BY L. HIGGIN - THE DEVELOPMENT OF EMBROIDERY IN AMERICA By CANDACE WHEELER - WOOD-CARVING: DESIGN AND WORKMANSHIPEdited by W. R. Lethaby - WOOD-BLOCK PRINTING by F. MORLEY FLETCHER - PAINTING—SCULPTURE—ARCHITECTURE BY CLARA ERSKINE CLEMENT - THE PRACTICE & SCIENCE OF DRAWING BY HAROLD SPEED (nrapallo did this in IMP and I'm converting to PRC, LRF) - RELATIVITY: THE SPECIAL AND GENERAL THEORY BY ALBERT EINSTEIN (this was my first conversion I uploaded at Christmas for LRF but the equations and figures are too small; I'm redoing them and formatting for LRF, PRC, IMP) After that (late summer?), I'd like to try tackling some math and science works. But we'll see. Last edited by vivaldirules; 06-19-2008 at 03:30 PM. |

I've already got the first six in html or pdf. I never bothered to make ebooks because I just print out a relevant section as necessary.
The main drawback with some e-needlework texts is that the relevant illustrations are several pages away from the instructions. (This is true of, say Beeton's book of Needlework and Therese de Dillmont's wonderful Encyclopedia of Needlework. The Christie text that you mention also does this, somewhat.) This means that constant flipping is necessary. Also, I tend to print out patterns because I mark them, either to show when I've done a row, or to underline a stitch combination which has to be repeated. But I may be untypical. |

I'll take that as a recommendation that I skip the first six (none of which had I started, yet). Thank you, Patricia.

Well, wait and see. Someone might beg for them. And I might well be atypical in the way that I use the texts.

BTW, I also did the .prc and .lrf versions mid April '08, so I guess you can say your workload has been lightened! On second thoughts, maybe you can improve upon my .lrf version, as it was my first attempt... I await any (good) math books you will convert. I'm totally fascinated by biographies of mathematicians and have actually downloaded the entire The MacTutor History of Mathematics website onto my REB 1200. Alas, it's copyrighted material so no uploading here! The Most popular biographies webpage lists the Top 100 viewed biographies with one of my favourites being Archimedes of Syracuse, Sicily (I'm also of Sicilian descent!). Einstein is also there, listed at number 2! Who's number 1? N...A...S...H Last edited by nrapallo; 06-20-2008 at 12:29 PM. |
