It should be way cheaper, to order BeBook Neo/Onyx Boox from the US. I would decide on features, not on availability. Once decided, you (and members of this forum) will find a way, to bring that respective unit to Australia. I like both Kindles and their ease of use. But I have to agree with HarryT: BeBook Neo has way more features and possibilities... |

Neo and Boox are identical in hardware, firmware can be swapped. b.) I've used USUnlocked, Shipito was another tip. Both will give you proposals about total costs. When briefly checking, I've found 2 sites, both offering for $ US 339: Dulin's book https://www.mobileread.com/forums/member.php?u=48313 (they are frequently in this forum, you can contact them directly) and onyxboox.com. $ US 339 should add up to something in the range of: $ US 339 = US list price $ US 40 = shipment $ US 60 = customs and VAT (just a wild guess, I have no idea about Australia. But I found that for some European countries and others have confirmed the range. Sometimes you have to pay, sometimes you don't...). $ US 30 if you have to pay commission to a 3rd party. So you should end up between $ US 380 and $ US 470 = between $ AU 420 and $ AU 520. At least below the $ AU 536 you've found locally (I wouldn't order from the US for savings of $ AU 16 because of warranty, but for $ AU 116 it may make sense). I'd talk to Dulin's book. It should be possible to avoid (customs and) commission that way. If you're lucky, you may get it for $ AU 420. Last edited by mgmueller; 03-25-2010 at 07:03 AM. |

Harry T why would you say the Neo is enormously better than the kindle2? Remembering I only want to read and download books
I saw the Neo today it looks great but noone here in Sydney stores knows much about them or the way to convert the B&N or Amazon files to Neo. Can you download from the Neo directly into the system - connecting via wiifi? Sorry to ask such dumb questions. thanks |

It's a great tool for converting files and managing your library. There's a separate user forum for it here. "calibre" does have server capabilities. So you can download from your own library via WiFi, as long as your reader has a webbrowser (nook, BeBook Neo, ...). I haven't tried it on BeBook Neo, but on nooknit's definitely working. 1. It has full folder support. which makes it enormously easier to manage a large book collection. 2. It supports the open ePub book standard, rather than Amazon's proprietary format, meaning that you can buy books basically anywhere. 3. It has an excellent user interface, navigable with either the buttons or the stylus, but still retails the benefit of a touch screen for those operations which do benefit from it, such as highlighting and dictionary lookup. |

mgmueller!
I'm hoping you buy an IPAD so we can all hear what you have to say about it, you are one of my favorite ereader specialist's on this site, considering you own tons of them, I love how you go into so much detail about these ereaders and comparing them one to another. Are you planning on buying an IPAD? |

So I guess it will be another 2 weeks or so.... BTW: I'll probably buy Que and Skiff as well. Have been thinking about Alex as well, but I'm not sure yet about the measurements. (And I'm losing control already. Permanently find discharged units...) Last edited by mgmueller; 04-14-2010 at 11:27 AM. |

Mgmueller!
I was wondering if you were able to look at a pocketbook 360 yet? Some people are saying it seems like the best one out right now. Even if you just played with it in store , and gave a brief FIRST impression, that would be helpful to me. Since you are in position to compare them with the others you own. |

If you want a 5" reader, the PB360 is definitely the one to get. (However, my overall recommendation would still be for the Neo.) |

Harry!
Thanks for your input on this. I did go to amazon and they have 2 reviews, 5 stars each, BUT it seemed to me like maybe one of them was written by people who made it, very long and just read like an ad for the product. The price on amazon is about 269 dollars which seems pretty high for a 5 inch ereader from unknown company based out of Russia area. It could very well be a fair price but I have been seeing the sony 5 inch for 139-159 on sale different places. I know we have people on this forum that sell the 360 or represent the company, and that is fine and all, that is why I need people like you and others that have been here a long time and can compare them. Mgmueller I know has a thread, this one, that compares them all, so I posted here. Thanks for your input Harry! |

Pocketbook are hardly an "unknown company"; they are one of the biggest players in the European ebook market, and have been so for some considerable time.
They are, by the way, based in Ukraine, not Russia ![]() |
