I'm almost done prepping a book I'm going to put up on Smashwords and Kindle this coming week. It's kind of an experiment, in that it falls between genres, women's fiction, romance, adventure, but not solidly in any of them.
Still working on the catalog copy, but here is the short 400 character version for Smashwords (and a large thumbnail of the cover): Title: The Whore of Freedom New Acteron is on the verge of rebellion, and so is Mary Alwyn, the unfaithful wife of a rebel. But when she betrays her lover for the revolution, her husband holds her up as a hero: the Whore of Freedom. For Mary to live down the first part of that name, she'll have to live up to the second. She becomes a spy, as bold as her reputation. But she'll never be free until she returns to face her past. ![]() |

Thanks! I hope to get it up on Smashwords tonight or tomorrow, but I don't know how long it takes to go live. (I heard that Smashwords has signed a deal with Apple for their iBookstore launch. I'm excited about that.)

I published The Whore of Freedom on Smashwords tonight. It's available now at http://www.smashwords.com/books/view/11786
I'll post a more formal announcement when I get it up on Kindle. |

I'm working on a third novel that's a departure from my first two. The new one, called The Twiller, is a light-hearted comedy in the vein of The Hitchhiker's Guide, whereas my first two were more "serious" space opera sci-fi with some underlying exploration of ethical themes.
I'm pretty excited because I'm getting fairly close to the finish line and I think it will appeal to a broader group of readers and just be a lot of "fun" to read (it has definitely been fun to write!). There are several excerpts up here if you'd like a little laugh. ![]() |

I am working on two novels that managed to get done cooking at the same time in my foggy brain.
Super Human is a look at a superhero trying to be a good father to his step-daughter and realizing how he is changing his views as he ages and how he needs to teach this to his children. Prometheus, The Ugly Boy- And Medusa is a book trying to turn every kids movie and story on it's head and explore some other issues that I wish traditional stories would teach kids instead of the same old crap that everyone sticks to. Outlining them now to make sure the structure stays intact and the plotting and action are great. Then its time to write. After a 4 year writer's block, anti-depressants are a godsend, until I sit down to write and realize I've got 4 years of stuff backed up and ready to come out now! |

Worked a bit on my "First 4 Billion Years" a bit. I'm beginning to formulate a framework for it I think. Wrote what may be the ending lines.

I'm writing my second book. Just finished with the notes and research, and have started typing the actual book. I'm having a hard time getting started, but I know that I'll get a chance to sit down and focus later this week. My first book, Secrets In The Shadows, just came out in e-book format (all different versions) through Smashwords, ditto Amazon for Kindle, and is on Createspace and Amazon as a paperback, as well. This is a whole new world for me, but I'm excited. There's a lot to learn...

Back to "Amy's Hero
Amy sat there for a long time. She had expected to feel much better now that she was back at the MHRC. But she did not feel that way. She did not feel bad. It was just that…she felt nothing. It was not the same place. Nothing was the same. Her room was not her room. Her sanctuary downstairs had disappeared under the weight of grey file cabinets. And this place, this place where she had sat and talked with…friends? For a moment, she thought of Roberta and she wondered what the older woman was doing. She gave the break room a critical look. Susan obviously did not get it quite as clean as Amy could. She was tempted to grab a rag and set to work. She started to stand. But then she remembered what Jane had told her. She sighed and sat back down. There was nothing to do. She could not go outside. She did not have a room of her own. Now that she was completely calm, she was beginning to feel embarrassed about how she had emotionally lost control in front of Jane. In the middle of the afternoon, the District Supervisor appeared at the doorway to the break room. To her surprise and discomfort, as soon as she saw the alien, Amy's eyes began to moisten again. She could not help herself. She flung her arms around the alien and, pressing herself against that huge body, she began to weep. She barely was conscious of the wide pad that suddenly rested gently on the back of her head. "What's wrong, Amy?" said the mechanical voice from the device fixed around the aliens snout. "I want to go home," sobbed Amy. "I want to go home." "Amy, you can not return to the home of your parents," said the alien. "Not there," hiccupped Amy. "I want to be here. With you." |
