Two titles in the Dr Dody McCleland series by Felicity Young have dropped to $0.99 at Kindle US.

The Scent of Murder, #3
link: http://www.amazon.com/dp/B00FOFMDTM
Spoiler:
Quote:
The third Dr Dody McCleland mystery ... Agatha Christie meets Phryne Fisher.

'If a black dog appears along the old corpse way, the route a funeral procession takes to the churchyard, it is thought to be escorting the dead soul to the afterlife. A black dog sighting without a funeral procession, however, is supposed to foreshadow death.'

For Doctor Dody McCleland, the unearthing of an ancient skeleton in a dry riverbed is a welcome break from the monotony of chaperoning her younger sister at a country house near the isolated hamlet of Piltdown. But when she begins her analysis of the bones, Britain's first female autopsy surgeon discovers they are much more recent - and they are the result of murder. With Chief Inspector Matthew Pike's help Dody begins to investigate. Soon she finds herself pitted against ugly traditionalism, exploitation, spectral dogs, a ghostly hunt and a series of events that not only threaten her belief in scientific rationalism, but threaten her life itself.

'A classic, with fluid and atmospheric storytelling ... Young's skilful narration captivates and intrigues. Her medical knowledge provides a veracity that brings the action alive. there is romance, suspense, fleeting glimpses of the supernatural and exploration of the good and truly evil in human nature ... The Scent of Murder incorporates memorable characters, immersed in an interesting historical period, with love and tragedy intertwined. It has sentiment without sentimentality.' WEST AUSTRALIAN

The Insanity of Murder
link: http://www.amazon.com/dp/B00RKU7QM8
Spoiler:
Quote:
Another engrossing mystery in the acclaimed Dr Dody McCleland series, featuring Britain's first female autopsy surgeon.

To Doctor Dody McCleland, the gruesome job of dealing with the results of an explosion at the Necropolis Railway Station is testing enough. But when her suffragette sister Florence is implicated in the crime, matters worsen and Dody finds her loyalty cruelly divided. Can she choose between love for her sister and her secret love for Chief Inspector Matthew Pike, the investigating officer on the case?

Dody and Pike's investigations lead them to a women's rest home where patients are not encouraged to read or think and where clandestine treatments and operations are conducted in an unethical and inhumane manner. Together, Dody and Pike must uncover such foul play before their secret liaisons become public knowledge - and before Florence becomes the rest home's next victim.

Praise for the Dr Dody McCleland Mysteries:

'An excellent crime series ... careful plotting, unexpected twists. sexual tension and a thrilling ending will leave readers eagerly awaiting the next instalment' Good Reading

'Cannily blending the forensic thriller with historical crime ... [plus an] endearingly eccentric heroine ... More please, Ms Young, and soon' Sunday Age

'A classic, with fluid and atmospheric storytelling ... Young's skilful narration captivates and intrigues' West Australian

'This satisfying blend of history, forensics and crime is the first of a compelling new series' Woman's Day on A Dissection of Murder

Cross-post to the General Fiction thread for Everything Under the Heavens, which is the first in the Silk and Song trilogy by Dana Stabenow, much better known in this thread as the author of the Kate Shugak and Liam Campbell mystery series. But, if you want to know what Dana has been doing since the last frustrating/annoying/not-playing-fair (to me, at least) Kate Shugak novel, Everything Under the Heavens is free right now at Kindle US.

info in this post: https://www.mobileread.com/forums/sho....php?p=3302679

P.S. According to her blog, the next Kate Shugak novel (which will determine if I will read anymore after that - yeah, I know, pretty weak threat ) is due out sometime this year...

Spoiler:
The body of a young man fished out of the Thames is of little interest to Londoners caught up in the excitement of Queen Victoria’s Diamond Jubilee celebrations.

Yet to Inspector Sam Blackstone, the case is as puzzling as any he has ever come across.

Why should a corpse dressed the in rags of a commoner have the face of a gentleman?

And if this man does belong to noble stock, why has no one come forward to claim the body?

As his investigation proceeds, Blackstone finds himself entering the world of the aristocracy—in which the presence of an ordinary policeman is far from welcome—and tramping the dangerous streets of London's Little Russia—where English law and order are not welcome.

Death seems to stalk him, and as each new clue leads to nothing more than a new murder, Blackstone comes to realize that he is caught up in what may turn out to be the most horrendous crime of the century…

And thank you (!!!) for the info about the first two also being on sale at Kobo AU and Kobo NZ. I still needed both of these, which are Penguin (agency) titles in the US: Dissection of Murder, apa The Anatomy of Death, is a whopping $11.99 and Antidote to Murder is even more expensive at $12.99. So I was really glad to hear about the AU/NZ sale prices!

I noticed the Amazon daily deal includes all of John Hart's books for under $3 each, probably because his new one is being released in 2 weeks. He won 2 Edgar Awards for best novel a few years ago and I highly recommend these.

The King of Lies
Down River
The Last Child
Iron House

Sufue I've just finished the first in series, set in 1910 it's quite well written, the period atmosphere has been evoked, and the characters personas seem to be resonant with the period. Definitely good enough to read the next in series imo!

Earlier this year I saw the English movie 'Suffragette' and I found myself visualising scenes in the movie as I read the march scenes in the book. (An excellent movie imo!! )
