A couple of weeks too late...

Does anyone know of a current deal on a very basic smart phone compatible with the AT&T network? I need one for my mother-in-law, who will barely use any of the "smart" capabilities, so it doesn't need latest specs or anything. She just dropped hers in the bath, and so we're helping her get a new one.

I did get one of Sir Monkey's LG Volts over Black Friday but (1) that would be overkill for her, and (2) I don't want to give it up myself

I got my son the At&t Radiant, for $42.70, at Amazon, from this same seller. Mine was marked "refurbished." It was in like new condition, with a number already assigned, ready to add minutes to. My son has been very happy with it!

We use At&t Go Phone prepaid. You can get .10 cents a minute, or you can get unlimited texting plus 250 minutes of calls for $25 a month.

The one trick you'll need to know is for storing the offline GPS maps. The phone's storage is low enough that you might only be able to store one or two maps into the internal storage. So you need to store them on the SD card. That's where this trick comes in, you have to get an app e-mailed to you and that app allows you to redirect map downloads to the SD card instead of to internal storage. Convoluted.

I've enjoyed the 520 as a podcast player/GPS Nav/FM radio/....
