Canadian laws on collecting private data and ensuring it remains private are quite strict. Among other things, Kobo would have to give you access to any collected information. Just much easier not to collect it in the first place.

Kobo does not store any information on the sideloaded books on your ereader. What they do store is the shelf names. After a reset, you'll see the shelves are recreated but no sideloaded books are put back on them.

You can use Calibre and configure it to place your sideloaded books back into shelves after a reset.

Thank you for pointing this out, David. It will be very helpfull, using this Calibre feature. The next factory reset is always only a new upgrade away

does anyone have trouble with highlighting with the new update?

I can't seem to highlight or add notes anymore. Nothing shows up on the words being highlighted or in annotations when I try to do either. :s

In my case, no. However some people were describing issues with highlighting in firmware 2.5.2. Maybe you can see if it matches your problem:

Well, when I was troubleshooting my Aura with Kobo CS, they had me hook it up to Kobo Desktop and generate a log file for them. I looked later after I'd sent it off by email and was displeased to see all my side-loaded books listed. None of their business and nothing that would help with a hardware issue (flickering glo light) anyway. I don't know that they KEPT the data, but collect it they did.

Well, a debugging log should hold a lot different information than for what is normally is sent back. If it was a hardware problem, then a list of books wouldn't have been needed but they probably just have one debug info collection routine.

Also, how did they get you to generate the log?

Anak,
I see the generic cover text under FW 2.6.1 (Mark 3). If you still have the blank cover with a small dot in the middle, this might be inherited from an earlier FW.

I had to connect the reader to the Kobo Desktop software and do something, don't remember what without looking up the CS email. It really didn't look like much of a debugging log as far as I could see, mostly just had the list of books and the email for my account, serial # I think, that kind of thing.

Unhappy After the latest update to my Kobo Touch, I cannot read epub which I convert from cbr

Hi Kobo dev,

I actually can read epub file that I converted from .cbr comic ebook. But after I updated to the 2.6.1 version I cannot read them any more. All pages except cover are blank. Should it be bug? Please fix it and update them in your next version. Many thanks.

Are they in PNG format? If so, there was a fix in a newer version of 2.6.1 which you may not have downloaded yet. Try syncing again... but depending in your locatin and device serial number, it might take a few days.

Actually if you already have 2.6.1 Kobo will not push the new version to you.

I don't understand why Kobo felt the need to push a secret update with out a version change to fix bugs. It seems to me they recognize they have issues just not sure why they would be so closed mouth about it! It seems to me that the best way to do it would be to rebrand it 2.6.1.something and post the change log with it, so we at least know what it addresses and why it was re released.

regards

The bug with PNG images in regular EPUB files (not KEPUB files) appears to be solved with 2.6.1b (the one with release date 2013-06-17).

Annoying for me,...since I always get the "dud" 1st version. So the only way to get it is sideload or factory reset?

Oh well, I'm patient enough to wait for the next upgrade...
