I sometimes arrange to have things delivered at work. (Obviously, this is no good if you've ordered a new fridge.)

I can't even imagine having to heat the house with electricity... Every single house here has a gas connection for water and heating (and the stove, if they didn't replace it with an induction or something like that)

And I do love our gas heater in winter. It makes the livingroom very cozy!

Hmm, when I ordered that new fridge, they were so friendly to put it in the garage And if I knew the address of the place where I work, I might have had it sent there. But I still need to look it up (the company moved at the start of July).

The worst part: it would have fit in the mailslot... but DHL wants a signature.

Ow, moving takes so long ... but at least some of the lamps are hanging now, all furniture is moved and so on. My back is totally OW! but its worth it.
Rant? Still no broadband, UMTS not working most of the time and GPRS is oh so freaking slow. D*mned.

So frustrating, isn't it. I wish I could help people who are moving (and then get the same help back). I hate moving house, so expensive and physically draining. I'm staying where I live now because me and my housemate can't be bothered to move. It's more hassle than it's worth.

Hope everything has gone well for you tirsales - I am staying in a house that isn't perfect because moving is too much hassle. I admire you for putting up with moving hassle so that you can move. Really, moving is rubbish. Can't wait to own a home/flat so that I can stay in one place for more than 18 months! Moving is a real achievement be pleased you have survived. It's always more difficult than you expect, so pat yourself on the back

We bought a new NetBook: (Windows XP, 1GB memory, 160GB drive, WiFi and Ethernet, 6 cell battery).

So much for plug and play home networks!!!!!

24 hours later and a serious amount of and we now have a home network consisting of:
  • Router with both Wifi and Ethernet capabilities
  • PC with attached printer/scanner/fax
  • NetBook (now loaded with necessities) with both Ethernet and Wifi access to internet, PC and printer
  • SONY PSP with access to internet.

We're tired, but we did it, and everything works!

(Note: When you buy a NetBook you might as well go ahead and buy the wireless mouse (nano is nice) because that touchpad will drive the sane insane, and the nearly insane over the edge!)

There is a reason it used to be referred to as plug and pray

I used to have a colleague who could never work out why the mouse pointer on her laptop would sometimes move erratically without her touching the touchpad. It turned out that when she typed she would catch it with her thumbs without realising.

Congrats!! There's no finer feeling than getting technology to work the way you want, even if it takes a LOT longer than you anticipated. It's that HUGE sense of accomplishment! Thankfully, I let my husband have all the fun(?) and I bask in the results!

This happens to me constantly on my studio laptop. All of a sudden, the screen starts scrolling while I'm still typing! Arg! It just did it again.

The pointer moving never bothered me. It was the clicking. I always turn off tap-to-click on my notebooks' touchpads.

I can't believe I didn't think of that before. I'm sure our new notebooks have touchpads... I wonder if the tap-to-click sensitivity on them can be changed...

I used to have one, but I kept having to lend it to my mother becuase she and my 10 year old brother kept killing mice (and keyboards, too)*. I eventually stopped trying to get it back. Now I'm used to the touchpad, and a mouse is disconcerting.

*A few months back I gave in to the inevitable and started buying her keyboards by the case on Ebay. I figure 1 case of 10 keyboards should last over a year.

I so agree. I'm using a little Logitech mouse with all my computers. But it is essential with my EEE.

I'm stuck with reading By Heresies Distressed in paper because TOR is a dinosaur.
