I purchased two books during the S&S sale. They complete a Star Trek series I started last year. At 99 cents each I didn't want to pass it up.

Yes, I bought them direct from the S&S site. Epub or Kindle format DRM-free.

I bought them as well(from Kobo), so that makes 4 books this month. Hopefully that's all I'll get till next month.

I feel that. I’ve had a series of graphic novels on my wishlist for some time now, and the three I didn’t have (plus a new one) just went on sale for $5.99 each. On the one hand, plunking down $25 (after tax) isn’t comfortable, but considering that it’s about half-off and I’ve been wanting to read them, I went ahead and bit the bullet.

I’ve already read the first of the four and have started the second.

August
Bought: 14 (£16.95)
TBR Drop: -14

What looks like a pricing error means I've bought 3 omnibuses containing a total of 16 books in the last two days. (I already had 4 of the books, and have also bought 2 other books, which is how it ends up at 14.)

I don't think I have much chance of earning that out before the end of August, even if I don't gain any more books. I might be able to get back ahead on the year, but so far I've broken even or better in every individual month of 2018. I don't think I even have many short stories and novellas left to cheat with.
Well, I thought I might have had an outside chance of earning back my 14-book deficit, even though my best month so far this year was 12, but things have moved on since then and now I'm at -28 for the month. And I'm probably not done.

The thing is, though, it's only 7 purchases. It would have been more ridiculous to pass up the 10-book omnibus to just buy the next in the series for the same price.

In fact, thinking about it, I have been quite restrained except for the two largest omnibuses. Of the 7 purchases, 4 are omnibuses. 1 (3 books) was already on my wishlist. Another (3 books but I've already read one) contains the book that was on my wishlist and is the same price as the book on its own. It's the other two that are problematic. The 10-book omnibus is sort of on my wishlist - my policy is only to list the next book in a series, and I already own the next 2 books in this series, so it wasn't actually on my wishlist but is a series I am reading. Today's 14-book omnibus is the one I haven't read and wasn't wishlisted. It is a series I occasionally think about starting, and keep an eye on in charity shops, but I guess it is true that it was the sale price that convinced me, here.

Anyway, I need to get some reading done...

Yikes, I’ve bought 201 e-books so far this year... my TBR is over 1000...

But I have over 2000 tagged as read in Calibre. And I have deleted the books I don’t think I will read from my TBR. AND, especially proud of this, I unsubscribed from Kindle Unlimited, since the “have to read 10 books a month from KU” thinking was keeping me from reading any of the TBR books. Baby steps

well, if any of the dystopian books happen: I do have a solar panel and will be able to charge my reader (unless an EMP fries it).

I'm about with you on books bought this year. Not good. But I'm absolutely NOT buying ANY more bundles. I inevitably end up with a plethora of books I'm very unlikely to read.

I stopped buying the Baen bundles last year because my late sister is no longer around to read them. I usually only read a couple of the books out of each. I still sometimes get those Phoenix Pick bundles because it's an author I like. Still, I have more than 5 years of reading/listening material in hand. I did get a bunch of audiobooks for cheap with the closing of Audiobookstand (they are closed now, so you can't be tempted!), but doing MUCH better not picking up free books. As suggested, I think "Would I pay $4 for this book or $8 for the accompanying audiobook? If not, I don't get it.

That all said, I bought quite a few audiobooks during audiobookstand's closing sale (they are closed now, so you won't be tempted). Hard to turn down audiobooks that interest me that are only $4. Yes, I'm a victim of sales.

I have been doing so well this year, and pretty much resisting temptation. Kobo helps in this by sending out special offers where you have to wade through 99 pages of books, almost all of which are of no interest to me whatsoever, so I just don't look.

But they are getting cunning. Today they sent me a collection of best sellers at $A4.99 each (a good price in Oz). There were only six pages of books to go through, and I bought four (books, not pages).

My only justification is that two are by authors I like, and I haven't read these books, and two are books I have long meant to read but have never got to.

I'll confess to buying a book yesterday and one I'd never heard of until I bought it. It got five stars from a Goodreads friend and when I clicked on the title, I saw it was only $1.99 at Amazon ($14.39 at Kobo).

It would be a crime not to get a five star book at that price!

The only thing I can say in my defense is that when I run that "compare books" algorithm at GR, this is the friend whose tastes are most congruent with mine. So I'll blame him.
