Seriously, I wouldn't want anyone to do that to their kids, but it would be funny if a single man with no children offered it as his first response just to break the monotony. I'd love to see the look on Sajak's face.

This reminds me - on Jeopardy - when Alex tries to get each contestant to relate an interesting tid-bit about themselves - some of these contestants are so, errrr, sheltered that the prep team obviously had to practically use hypnosis to get something for the contestant to share with a national audience. My personal favorite - a gentleman who collected old books - and found an invitation to a past presidential inauguration used as a bookmark - which he claimed was now his most treasured possession.

This is a great thread because you can post just about anything here that fits nowhere else.

Which brings me to Metropolis. I love that old movie, and the special effects weren't bad at all, considering it was made 1927. The robot, especially, was one of the finest to ever grace the screen. But one thing always bothered me. How was it that the addition of skin over the bare metal turned a giant, slow-moving hulk of technology into a petite, fast-dancing, seductive flapper?

3 quick notes:

(1) Brigitte Helm played both Maria (the heroine) and the robot who impersonated her to lead the workers astray.

(2) In looking this up, I discovered that there is a brand new (2010) restoration containing 25 additional minutes. There was a restoration a few years ago that consisted of still photos to replace the missing scenes. The additional material filled holes in the plot and helped make more sense of the movie. I can't wait to see this new restoration.

(3) I just ordered a copy while writing this post.

The one with Adam Ant and a few others? Geeze, Pooh! I hated that version. They edited the movie to fit the soundtrack.

I noticed that before I signed in today, I saw some Metropolis (2010 restored version) ads on the MR sign-on page. I wonder if that's because I googled the movie?
