Heh Heh! I do that all the time here at work, and they think I'm a genius! Anything happens, they call me. I'll fiddle around with it a bit to look like I know what I'm doing, then pull the plug. If it restarts nice and clean, then I leave them watching the screen while antivirus does a full 2 hr scan. I warn them to jiggle the mouse every so often so it doesn't go to screensaver and mess up the scan.

My favourite one is when someone locks their computer by putting in the wrong password 3 times. Our network is set so that after 5 minutes it will unlock you, it doesn't permanently lock you out until you've put the wrong password in 6 times. Of course no-one believes they've got their password wrong. So I talk to them about the problem for a bit, check the keyboard for them (make sure they don't have caps lock on or something) then tell them to do something that's going to take a while (what I ask them to do depends how bored I am ...). By the time they try to log in again their account is unlocked and they have calmed down so everything works.

I hate waiting on the delivery of a package! "We come between 9:00 and 17:00". So, if you don't take the day off, they come at 9, if you do, they come at 5... And your whole day is spoiled

The same thing ALWAYS happens to me with the appliance repair people! It's so frustrating.

They don't do that here anymore. Now they have a car that drives around and they pick up a radio signal from the meter. One of my husband's summer jobs was as a meter reader, walking from house to house and dodging dogs . When we get the electric bill, he always checks the meter to make sure the bill is on target. Unfortunately, it's been correct everytime, so I can't blame the power company when our bill is high.

i do that too. particularly since they check it twice a year in person, and in between i report the numbers myself, so i pay what i really use. i still blame them when the bill is too high though.

Our last bill was about 60% higher than it normally is. And that included one week when we where away so the A/C was off. We went out and looked at the meter, two weeks after the read, and it still showed a lower number than what was on the bill.

So, those auto readers aren't foolproof.
