I don't want to prolong this issue (which I started), since this isn't the right forum. But, yes it's true--the book I bought won't even work on desktop or, surprisingly, many Kobo devices like Kobo Touch. Only on the very newest devices, and on iPhone and Android apps. Clearly it's an even newer generation of KEPUB.

Their customer service gave me a credit and a new discount code for the amount of the discount code I'd used (a legit one from my own contest codes).

As a matter of interest what was the title of the book? The only books I've come across so far that weren't ePub was for graphic novels and the like.

I've got two that have no download/Adobe DRM button, but they do appear in the Kobo desktop app on my Mac.

However, I don't know how I would have been able to read them if I didn't have a Kobo device and had just decided to purchase from Kobo because I assumed I could read them on a generic reader.

Interesting. That doesn't even show up for my region. Kobo should seriously rethink things if they are going to start offering books only in kePub format. It really doesn't make sense alienating users of the myriad other ereaders that also support ePub, especially since Kobo is the only viable alternative store (for me at least).

For those happy to fiddle with Python scripts, I beleive that it is now possible to convert kePub to ePub, after stripping DRM.

Clearly Kobo needs to do something to make all of this a no-brainer. People should not have to try to figure it out. Kobo should make it clear.

In the US store the book in question has the ereader icon but not the Blackberry one Kobo need their head read going down this track it's crazy that we need to guess what a book can be read on, more and more of these books seem to be popping up. In this case it seems to be that it can only be read on an android tablet that's just plan nuts if U ask me

Someone in this thread recently posted that by saving a preview to the library it gives you clearer information which in this case it kind of does. Most books I have saved for preview have written under them "Download options: Adobe DRM EPUB" the book in question however is blank, so I think I'll be using that method to pre check books before purchase

An easier way to check is to access the old site using IE 9 if you still have access to that. I use that method and the formatting normally shows as ePub. One of the other kepub titles mentioned does show in our region and on the old version of the site it doesn't have any file format info.
