I'll have to give them a go. Thanks, Jon.

I liked Floating Dragon. It had a similar premise as Stephen King's It. (Grownups return to fight a recurring evil they faced as children.) Floating Dragon was published first and told the story in what seemed like half the length of King's novel.

Straub's Shadowlands was good also.

Finished Millington's "A Certain Chemistry" and definitely didn't think it lived up to either of his other ones but particularly "Things My Girlfriend and I Have Argued About". Hated the voiceover premise, found nothing redeeming whatsoever about the protagonist and wasn't given enough of a chance to like any of the other characters.

Moving on to Joe Hill's Horns - crossing my fingers this one lives up to The Heart-Shaped Box.

Finished "Murder on the Eightfold Path" about six a.m. this morning. The book was good, but not quite that good....The reason I was reading at six a.m. instead of sleeping is that I've been having trouble staying asleep. I fall asleep just fine, but if I'm ever awakened, I have the devil of a time getting back to sleep.

I hate that. And, for me, getting up and reading only postpones when I will return to sleep and so I end up losing some. My recent approach which has worked pretty well is to immediately try to stop thinking or doing anything and instead try to lull myself back to sleep by remembering and concentrating on the sensations of the most relaxing time in my life. Lately, I've been remembering sleeping in late one Saturday morning with my wife in Colorado when there were no kids, no noises from neighbours, and large, peaceful snowflakes were falling outside on the grasses in a nearby marsh. Quiet bliss purges the thoughts from my racing mind and....[yawn].........

LOL *covers VR with soft blankie and tiptoes away*.

Part of this is due to messing up my sleep schedule on Saturday. I got off at midnight on Friday night, and Chris got off at 1 a.m. So we made it to bed about 2:30 a.m. But, Chris had to take his Blazer in for some maintenance at 8 a.m. Saturday morning. So the alarm went off at 7, I dragged myself out of bed, followed him out to the repair place, and then we came home and went back to bed until the alarm went off again at 10:30 so we could go pick up his Blazer and then he could go to work for a few hours. I went back home and went back to bed until the phone woke me up at 1:30, and then went BACK to sleep for another hour until I looked at the clock and realized, "Oh crap, it's 2:30 p.m. and Chris will be home at 3:00!" So I got up, but by then it was too late. All that fragmented sleep just killed my schedule. I'm still not back on track completely.

Outstanding book. I don't always agree with his political views, but his arguments against revealed religions are powerful.

I've decided that turning 40 is the ideal age to be as true to myself as I possibly can, however, erm, eccentric that may make me seem This means I can carry on acting in a way that I might once have described as youthful exuberance, and also continue to be a grumpy old git when I feel like it. And in addition, it means I really wind up those people at work who are dreading turning 40 (or even 30)

Dragging it back on topic, I'm between reads right now. Concentrating on writing. Or thinking about writing, anyway...
